Not sure when you're going but I wouldn't be surprised if it debuted within the next few weeks.

No opening date has been announced, and construction is still in progress. But a good possibility is Earth Day, April 22nd. Earth Day is the anniversary day for Animal Kingdom, and major events tend to happen then.

We will be there April 30-May 10 and I have not seen any late hours posted for that time period yet. AK closes at around 6PM for my entire stay. It will still be too light out at that point for a light show. Of course hours could change at last minute.

Ahem. I believe I called this one correctly. The official opening will indeed be on Earth Day, April 22nd.

Is this something we will need a ticket for, or a fastpass? Also, any clue as to when they will post the new nighttime hours?

    Rumors that I picked up:
    - April 22
    - Show will begin a half hour after dark
    - Animal Kingdom will now be open as late as 11ish some nights
    - Night time "safaris" might be added to see nocturnal animals like hyenas
    - Other night time stuff might be added like "story telling", acrobats, etc.
Once again, I don't think anything has been officially announced.

Most ABC stations have covered this topic. April 22 will be the kickoff to the nighttime show and this article lists all of the rides that will be open, including the nighttime safari.

There will be no additional ticket required. FP+ will be an option for early seating, but you will not need a FastPass to get in to the seating area.

There will be dining packages also, but the restaurants and reservation details have not been announced.

We are planning on being at AK on April 22nd! We have dinner at Boma at 6pm, and then I guess we can go back. I'm wondering if it's a crazy day to try to be there, though...

So, basically, this will have the same setup as Fantasmic! -- First come, first served, after dining packages and FP+. So, about an hour before the show, there will be a line forming throughout the park.
