Default So....I've been under a rock...now I feel like I've been hit in the head by one!!

So, Hi again! I haven't posted in a very long time....it's been a year since our last visit and we've decided to take a quick trip to the world for five days right after Easter. We have always stayed at the Poly in the past. Holy Prices Batman! No way, no way in the world will I pay that type of money that I just realized it would cost us this year. No way can I justify the price of that room. Sooo.....Where to stay? I realize choices are limited on short notice. I wished for Beach Club, standard room, but not available. Where would you stay? Looks like Port Orleans riverside is open...should we consider that? Or Art of Animation? Please advise where we may like. This is a short/sweet/hoping to keep the prices down trip. But...I want to feel good at our resort. I want it to feel good at the end of the day...and also, I'm a big pool person., so....help, please!!

I'd choose POR. It has a good sized main pool, hot tub (and hammocks). There are also 4 quiet pools scattered around the resort which can be nice for an almost personal swim.

There is a great food court, a good TS restaurant, and Yee Haw Bob for (almost) nightly entertainment. It is a resort that feels great!

I agree. We stayed there Spring Break last year to try it out and enjoyed it. It a big resort, but it wasn't packed during Spring Break. They have a nice food court, but we really liked Las Ventanas for breakfast; it was very quiet and the food for breakfast was delicious. Didn't get a chance to try them for dinner, but would like to in the future.

The rooms were clean and spacious enough for the four of us. We were in the Cabanas section and a pool view. They had hammocks near the lake for relaxing and the walk to the main pool wasn't too far, or the walk to the main building.

We have stayed at POR many times before, in both Alligator Bayou and Mansions section which is a nice option also. The boat to Disney Springs is a plus if you enjoy going there.

    Enjoy your planning.

I also think Coronado Springs might be a nice choice. It's a moderate but has features more commonly found in the deluxe resorts. While I haven't stayed at Art of Animation, I did visit there when my brother stayed there. Their room was quite nice and included a separate bedroom and two bathrooms. The pool was huge and looked quite inviting.

Lisa, do you need a room that sleeps 5? If so your choices will be somewhat limited. If you guys will only be a party of 4, have you checked pricing at WL or AKL? Still deluxe, but much better priced than poly.

Also, check out CBR. We call it "the poor man's poly". Lol. It has the tropical feel of the Poly at a fraction of the cost. It's certainly not the Polynesian, but we think it's a good compromise. They now have rooms that sleep 5. So if it's all 5 of you they will have rooms to accommodate you, if they aren't booked up.

Good luck! I have been pricing a possible trip this summer and prices seems to be steep in comparison with our last trip as well.

The prices have gone up considerably. We went last November and my trip that I just booked for the SAME number of days, resort, tickets and dining is $1500 more.
    That is annoying.
The Port Orleans is very nice. The French Quarter is much smaller and quieter, and the Riverside has some great running/walking paths, nice rooms, and a calm vibe. You will be fine at either. Enjoy!!!!

Either Coronado Springs or Port Orleans Riverside would be good options.

My wife and I have always liked Pop Century. The pools are nice and the food court is pretty good. For variety, you can always cross the pond to AoA!

So , no, there will be four of us, the catch is, my two teens are a boy and a girl, I can't have them together in a bed...I suppose DH and myself could swap for the five days if we don't have a way to split them up.....POR would be our only option or AOA...A standard room at the Poly is over 900 dollars!! Who in the world is paying that??? I can't even wrap my mind around it.

Holy cow! A Standard room is $900. That can't be right. Are you sure it wasn't "standard view club level"?

Can you swing two rooms at AoA so the kids can have their own room? That's what I would do.

Oh, no, I take that back. Standard room is almost 700 dollars, and the theme park view 972 dollars. NOT club level for either of them. Simply outrageous. Bye bye Poly.

This is why we finally ended up going DVC. We love our deluxe stays. The GF is our favorite, but we bought at Bay Lake Tower. And it has been really great for us, allowing us to book more space for our family now that our kids (a boy and a girl) have grown up. They don't always travel with us anymore, but it's nice to get a 1 BR with a king bed even when it's just the two of us. We've really enjoyed our options, and trying new resorts like AKL. We're going back in May to BLT with both kids and my daughter's boyfriend. You can find some great buys in the resale market that might cost as much as one trip at the Poly (with those prices) but will last you for years. You might look into renting some points to try it out, and then you can stay deluxe with more space.

WOW -- That is expensive. But I totally understand that the prices are getting outrageous. We have been staying deluxe the past few trips; but this next trip we are trying Coronado Springs. Something about that resorts seems appealing and we have never stayed there. I'm actually excited to try it.

POR is our favorite moderate. If you want to stay at a deluxe resort for less, try renting DVC points.

Riverside or the FQ would be the best ... IMHO !! You say you want to feel good upon returning to the resort, these will certainly do that for you. They're both quiet, relaxing and have that true Disney feel.

Also have you considered the Swan/Dolphin? The location is fabulous. They share some of the same perks as Disney resorts (transportation, EMH, but no DME). The theming is cool, though maybe not as Disney as some resorts. They do have good lounges, restaurants, Disney gift shops. Comfortable beds, flexible room layouts. And the prices are generally really affordable. For the location alone, they are good options.

Yes. Considered them for sure. Not available for our dates. Neither is CBR, CS , so the only "reasonable" option is POR. I didn't even like the "real" NO, so I'm thinking nay on the resort!
