The "Earffel Tower" landmark will come down at Disney's Hollywood Studios soon, and the theme park will close several attractions April 2.
Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show; Honey, I Shrunk the Kids Movie Set Adventure; a Monsters Inc. meet-and-greet, and the Studio Catering Co. restaurant will all close as part of a makeover.

These moves are to make way for the Star Wars and Toy Story areas coming to the park. The majority of these I won't really miss, but THE EARFFEL TOWER ??? That is the "icon" of the park, and its removal, in my opinion, is a bad idea.

    What's everybody think ?

The Earffel Tower is not the icon of the park, the icon of the park is the replica of the Grauman's Chinese Theater, which is now more on display than ever.

The Earful Tower never stood out all that much, whether an icon or not, and I don't mind the loss. It's not all that impressive. That said, I don't see why not just move it, but maybe that's too much of an impossibility.

Actually, the icon Disney has been using recently is Tower of Terror.

Sad to see the earful tower go though. Is there going to be anything to do at studios while they make it over?!

I think this removal is more evidence of the park name change coming. I hope they don't change hollywood blvd and it's theme too much

Studios Cast are reporting that The Writer's Stop has been added to the list of April 2nd closures.

It is not clear how many of the closures are tied to actual redevelopment of the area or the need for a construction/staging zone near the redevelopment area. Toy Story Land might stretch as far as Lights, Motors, Action!, but Star Wars Land is still rumoured to not stretch past the current Star Tours location.

Regarding a new icon, I was getting suspicious if the Earffel Tower would survive after the Hollywood Tower Hotel began to represent the park on most of the 2016 merchandise.

Agreed. Writer's Stop is my favourite coffee and a snack spot at the Studios.

Please correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't that mean that the Streets of America area would be untouched due to these two areas (TSL & SWL)? If so, then what is to be done with SoA? Will this be cannibalized for a (possible) MuppetLand area?

It was originally reported that the Streets of America and the area of the Backlot directly behind this area, would be for a yet-to-be-announced third new land.

The new developments are indicating that:

    A) This area was needed most immediately as a construction/staging zone for the two redevelopment areas and will be redeveloped once the two announced areas are complete.

    B) The plans for the two redevelopment areas have been changed.

    C) The timeline for the third redevelopment area has been significantly escalated.

    D) None of the above.

The announcement has had the rumour mill churning at full speed, but there hasn't been much certainty produced yet.

I was always a big fan of the earful tower as a neat icon and nod to the history of it being an actual studio. But it does seem like the park has been in a weird place regarding a defining structure - I was never a fan of the hat so glad it is gone.

Hopefully these new changes will help bring the studios back to the fun (and full day) destination that it once was!

I have always liked the earffel tower. I am not liking all the closures...improvements are necessary but I know that me & my family will not be spending much time here if all that will be there is star wars - we are not fans.

I am looking forward to seeing what is done with the changes...but I am not going to lie, I will miss the Earffel Tower ...and if it's true, the Writer's Stop has always been a favorite snack stop for me.

Lights, Motors, Smell, whatever is the truly notable news here. It has only a few more months to be awful.

For fun, you should open up the Disney World My Disney Experience app and look at DHS in it. While reviewing that list of "attractions", keep in mind that they try to collect $97 before taxes for a 1 day ticket. For further fun, think of the attractions that are closing in the relatively near future without replacement and how ticket prices will likely increase at least once during that time.

I was thinking the same thing - if not for the fact that the kids love Toy Story Mania & Tower of Terror - I'd advocate skipping this park until the construction has completed.

    Quite sad.

I believe when it was called Disney-MGM Studios, there was a reduced admission rate for the park, reflecting the level and number of attractions at the park, relative to the other two (at the time).

It's not without precedent to offer a reduced admission fee, though it likely makes little business sense, when it is likely that most people buy multi-day passes.
