Default No more cheese on the condiment bars

Perhaps this was mentioned and I missed it, but as of last week, there is no more hot cheese on the condiment bar at Casey's. I was told by a CM that it was a park wide policy, and it was pulled from all of the condiment bars. Needless to say, I was shocked. We've been going to Casey's for 20+ years, and loved topping our fries with cheese. I told the CM, I'd be more than happy to purchase the cups of cheese, and she told me that they weren't allowed to sell them. I wasn't the only person in the restaurant that was unhappy about this new policy.

    Default bummed

I know, I'm really bummed about this too, sounds crazy but there is nothing like a big ole cup of cheese to dip your fries in.

I read that a couple of weeks ago on a Disney food blog. The blogger reported that all the cheese was gone but she didn't know why. I never really used it, but my hubby and kids did. I wonder why they pulled it (uh, money, maybe?!?)

I remember in the past that people were burning themselves with the hot cheese. I was afraid then they'd ultimately pull it from the bar. So frustrated to hear it's actually happened. At least one person from our table had it every time we ate there.

I had heard this, but thought that you could still get cheese from the CM, just not self-serve.

OK, this is going to sound really, really silly, but with all of the news and changes over the past couple of week, this one has me the most upset. It is our first-meal tradition, hot dogs at Casey's with a ridiculous amount of cheese sauce for the fries.

    This is not cool Disney!

I think it has something to do with this:

"A family is suing Walt Disney Parks and Resorts after they say their 4-year-old son was badly burned by dangerously hot nacho cheese that spilled on him at the Magic Kingdom......"
    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/disney-n...magic-kingdom/

plus of course it saves money

Look out - hot coffee is next. Can't have that in the parks. Coming soon to you. Cold cuts served at every table service location.

This is about cost cutting - plain and simple and more profits from cheese cups being sold.

Maybe the nacho cheese was excessively hot - I have no idea. Maybe the equipment was faulty or a cast member really screwed up... but are we going to remove nacho cheese now from every Wawa, Sheetz, 7-11 and other convenience store across the country. Because one accident happens, we all suffer?

Have we completely lost our minds as a country that we can't somehow regulate the appropriate temperature of nacho cheese for consumption?

I do honestly feel for the child... but the lawyers statement is lunacy: "Cahill also said the nachos did not come with any warning of their temperature."

BTW as pointed out by twitter, the story about the child is from February of 2011 - doubt it's related.

I'm thinking that it is to save money, and that they're using the lawsuit as an excuse for cutting it. Maybe it's both. What I couldn't understand was that I offered to pay for a couple of cheese cups, and she told me that they are not allowed to sell them. As far as that line of thinking goes, anyone can burn themselves on the buffet lines if they aren't careful, especially kids. I don't see them changing the policies at the buffets. Maybe they'll switch to chilled soups.

I think it may have more to do with our litigious society rather than money. The original poster asked about buying cheese cups and they weren't selling them. If this was all about $$$ they would have the cheese cups at every counter ready for purchase.

Maybe they can start selling them as side orders and make you sign a waiver that anything that might happen due to the heat and consistency of the product is the responsibility of the purchaser and not Disney.

I know this is a different world than I grew up in because ... when I was kid we microwaved the cheese whiz, handled the hot glass jar with an oven mitt, scooped it with a spoon or poured it out onto our nachos, blew on the stuff until it only mildly burned the roof of our mouths ... and begged our parents to buy more at the grocery store. Well, that's enough of my after school snack memories!

Of course, I wasn't 4 years old at that time & I know Disney has to protect itself ... sooo I keep repeating the mantra: "change is good"; but did all the change announcements have to come this week? <sigh>

The key phrase in there is "...not allowed to sell them". I think it Isn't about money.... at least not as in selling a product.

Contingency lawsuits are better than lottery tickets. Better odds. If the lawyers think there is a decent chance at a BIG settlement (whether in court of out of court), because the defendant has huge deep pockets, they are glad to take the case for nothing up front unless they win, and then they get a big part of the award. So of course they jack up the amount they ask for so that their piece of the pie is large.

And if the case has the potential to develop bad press for the defendant... they know that a big out of court settlement can be leveraged more easily.

It is like buying a low odds lottery ticket... for free. As the plaintiff, you have absolutely nothing to lose.

So I wonder if one of two things has happened...... either the case finally hit the courts and Disney lost....... or Disney settled out of court. Often it is that kind of time lag from injury to settlement. In either case it is possible there is some "precedent setting" issue here.... and away goes the hot cheese.

This is not to say that I am not sympathetic to the child who was injured. And maybe something Disney did was actually a problem in this particular case. But one has to wonder about the precise circumstances that led up to the injury.....which of course NO ONE, even the jurors and the lawyers will never know precisely. Only the kid knows for sure.

Even if Disney did nothing "wrong", it can still be construed that way by a skillful legal team. And when the person injured is a child, a jury will tend to be sympathetic to that situation even if the facts are weak.

The whole "hot coffee is hot" culture that American has turned into is pretty pathetic. Seems like no one is ever responsible for themselves and their own actions anymore. If a bad thing happens, someone else has to be 'responsible' for that.

    best,

That's disheartening news. I was so excited to be able to extend my tradition of pulling up next to Sonny Eclipse and listening and watching him whilst dipping my fries into a delicious, usually warm by then, cup of cheese. It's still worth eating there just for Sonny, but the cheese is the only thing I really liked at Starlight.

As usual, this likely goes down as bad parenting. The cheese is cooled by the time you get a chance to eat it, so that leaves me to believe the parents were not watching their child and he ate directly from the spot, similar to those drunk-hazed young-adults drinking directly from the Slurpee machine on a dare and suffering brain freeze. One more victory for the blood-thirsty, non-ethical lawyers shifting the blame for poor parenting and lack of warnings by the owners against common sense.

It seems our many, many, many laws in America have allowed the Government to place the blame on the business rather than the individual, even when common sense should have prevailed. "Common sense", not so common anymore.

"I wonder what that steam signifies" or "the 'hot' in hot cheese means?" "Oh well, down the hatch."

I don't recall us ever getting this cheese, but I'm so sorry for those of you who are really going to miss it. It's always sad when you know something you like will be gone.

The reason you can't have it anymore is that it's "not-cho" cheese!
