Ratio of on-site to off-site park visitors

May be stupid but does anyone know or have a guess what the ratio is??

Onsite/offsite 60/40? 70/30?? I don't have a clue

I realize Disney has thousands of rooms onsite but those parking lots looked pretty full every time we went by too...

I don't know the answer but keep in mind that many on-site guests do not use Disney transportation but drive themselves to the parks.

And many off-site guests use hotel shuttles and not rental cars

WDW only has around 25,000 hotel rooms onsite I believe. If you figure an average of 3 people per room, that is only 75,000. Even if you throw 4 per room at it, it is still only 100,000. Magic Kingdom alone will hold that many people.

We started staying offsite for better accommodations at a far better price several years ago and I can tell you every time we have been and regardless of resort, the majority of the people staying there visit WDW for at least a few days. There are who knows how many hotels ranging from budget to high end in Orlando. Most of these resorts provide free shuttles which are almost always full. We always drive over and usually when we come out to leave, the parking lots are also pretty full of cars.

I would guess it is more like 40% onsite to 60% offsite but that is just a total off the wall guess.

There are more rooms available on WDW property than the entire Orlando/Kissimmee area combined. I didn't believe this at one time, but found out later it was true. There may be more hotel/motels offsite, but those on Disney property are huge.

I ask for the purpose of FP+'s that are Pre-ordered by onsite guests from the 60 day mark to the day they hit the park... Then the off-site people have to get Fp+'s as they enter the park..

So, I asked myself... will more than half the fp's be gone before the offsite people hit the gates??

Or, since they lowered the max to 3 each are there plenty to go around all day (in case we want to change times at the park due to rain etc.)

According to the Orlando visitor's board, this is not a true statement. According to them, in Jan 2014, there were 116,099 rooms in the Orlando/Kissimmee area. This includes the Disney rooms, of course, but there are "only" 27,624 Disney owned and operated rooms on property. Even if you include the Swan/Dolphin and the hotels in the Downtown Disney area that are technically on Disney land, that's only 34,173 rooms. So there are another 81,926rooms elsewhere in the area. Again, according to the board, 38,000+ are along I-Drive, nearly 19,000 in Kissimmee alone, and the rest are scattered around the other areas of the city.

Everything is still in testing.

It's in testing for off-site guests to book in advance. It's in testing for AP's to book in advance.

There were initial reports they were withholding some for same day.

We will see.

This was the OFFICIAL room count as of 2012 - so you need to add AoA rooms to this but here you go. I'm pasting this from another spreadsheet I have so I hope it's legible. I have this by resort but could not get it to paste properly so you get the abbreviated version.
Disney Operated Rooms - Total 22,321
Non-Disney Operated Rooms (But on Disney property) - Total 6,578
Disney Vacation Club - Total 3,937
For a total of 32,836 rooms
Break down of:
Deluxe Rooms 5,611 - Moderate Rooms 7,089 - Value Rooms 8,424
So at 4 persons per room on average that would give you a total number 131,344 at 100% capacity.

Thanks, Yes that's the question .... If 80% of the park is on site guests.... 80% of the FP's could be gone days before the Off site guests get a chance to make any. AND if I need to make a last minute Park change the night before I hit the park.. I'll have little choices too.


If it's the other way... say 60% off site 40% onsite. It would seem that we could make changes to our FP"s (I'm staying onsite) the night before without being Pushed to less desirable times.. early am... late nite..etc AND the off site people will have a lot more to choose from also.

I'm not writing a book... just trying to plan ahead ...and being prepared... I anticipate a last minute park (thus FP+ ) change sometime in my trip.

And I afraid that if the Ratio is onsite 80/20 or so, I think that the off-site folks will really be on the short end of the stick if they don't hit the park at rope drop. (I hate waking up early on vacation)

The next few weeks with larger crowds will tell a lot.

Offsite rooms are roughly double that, so I would assume the ratio of on site to offsite is somewhere around 60/40 given that I'm certain WDW hotels have significantly higher occupancy rates than offsite hotels do.
