I took teen son who is a fragile diabetic to disney this last week. He had a very hard time due to temps and few places with shade in entrances and outside lines. I know it's hard for everyone, but it was very hard on him and his blood sugars.
Sorry to hear it was stressful for him, perhaps a different season would suit your family better.

DW and I are both diabetics. We used to travel mid-March when the weather is like flannel shirt weather days , needing a light jacket many eves.
Last 3 trips were September, maybe not the hottest time but close. No problems in September for us.

My DS12 is a type-1 diabetic. We've gone during some very hot times, May, September, etc. The key is to adjust your insulin dosage and make sure you have snacks readily available (Disney allows you to bring your own stuff in with no problem). Extra checking of sugar levels is good to make sure you don't go too low and drink lots of water to stay hydrated.

We leave tomorrow, whooo hooo!
My DH and DD are diabetic as well, over the years we have figured out how to manage their blood sugars pretty well. Testing blood sugars more often is key as well. Occasionally, they are able to have a Disney snack without having to take additional insulin for it. The only think my DH doesn't care for is lack of sugar free drinks other than plain water. For that, we typically bring sugar free flavor packets, makes water much more tasty.
