    Default Questions

My husband has Parkinson's (not the shaking kind so it's not quite so obvious). Standing in a long line in the heat will cause problems for him. Also boarding rides like Haunted Mansion and others that move quickly is a problem for him. If I ask the CM to slow the ride for him to board will they do that? How about a waiting area where he would be able to sit while waiting his turn to board? Do we need any special paperwork about his PD?

You can get a Guest Assistance Card and that will help him somewhat. I believe they can stop a ride for handicapped to get on and off, but I never have seen an area for guests to sit down. Perhaps he should think about an EVC.
    Good luck
Your attention please, the Walt Disney World Railroad is now boarding for a trip around the Magic Kingdom

A number of rides with continuous boarding can slow or stop depending upon the needs of the person trying to board. Have you looked into getting a GAC card? This will help you define your husband's needs and cast members can help guide you at the individual rides.

If you want to ride Peter Pan, that is one ride that can not be stopped

Just to expand on the above - Peter Pan

"This is the one ride belt in all of the Magic Kingdom that won't come to a halt for your board."

    Just to limit possible worries.

Spaceship Earth has a place to sit while you wait for "your turn." They will ask how many are in your party and then when the time comes, they will come out to the waiting area and get you.

I second the idea of getting an ECV. For the longest time I didn't use one at home, but having one at WDW helped me manage long distances and fatigue.

And on spaceship earth make sure you enter that area through the handicap door on the right side of the main line (looking from entrance). Enjoy!

I'm so glad you posted this. My husband has Parkinson's also. A couple of years ago we went and had a great time, even though his movement was very slow. We ended up cancelling a trip that was supposed to have taken place a few weeks ago due to his disease having progressed as it has. He's in the moderate to advanced category now.

I'd love to hear of your experiences and any advice you have for others with Parkinson's.

Like your husband, we don't have the tremors, just every other symptom. Are you Young Onset also?
