Question How do DVC points work for cruises?

I am looking at the DVC point charts for cruises, and I'm totally confused! Do the points that are listed for a given room on a given cruise cover just one person, or two people? For example, it takes 61 points for a standard inside stateroom for a 3-night Bahama cruise in January 2012. Is it 61 points per person, which would be 122 points total for 2 people, or just 61 points for 2 people?

I know that cruises are a terrible use of points, but it's looking like we're going to have some banked points left over from 2011 that might not get used, so I'm looking into all the ways we could possibly use them. TIA for any info you can provide!

The points are per person for the 1st and 2nd person so it would be 122 for 2 people. I'm not 100% sure but I believe one person could use points and the other pay cash.

Yes, it's per person, and you don't have to cover everyone in the room using points, but it's all of nothing for each person. You can't use say 30 points and pay the rest in cash. It would be 61 points, or all cash.

You are right, it's a horrible waste of points, better to rent out your points and use the money for the cruise.

For example, 122 points @ $11 a point = $1342. 3 day cruise for two people is running about $1050. You can actually get a 4 night cruise for the $1300.

Rent the points, pay cash and use the extra money for some drinks on board!

Thanks for the quick replies! You're right, it's a terrible use of points, so I think we'll be crossing that option off our list!

But if you paid $6 per point to purchase the points and for maintenance & taxes, then 122 points @ $6 a point = $732, which is less than $1050.
