I experienced this rule at Cosmic Rays in June and it was the most stressful meal I had (and my two year old provided us PLENTY of stressful meals). Plus I encountered the rudest CMs I have ever seen at WDW in 6 years.

I do not particularly mind the idea of the rule, but I was surprised that the CMs were not armed they were so rude to me, and everyone else, about the change. Because of Intercot, I knew what was going on even if I didn't like it, but I was the most steamed when a CM refused to allow me to enter through the exit side to return to my table after I made a second trip to the fixin's bar. I literally was the third table from the exit, or about the 150th table from the entrance. She physically jumped in front of me to the point I thought she was going to hit me to stop me from entering. I soo wish I had bolted and went anyway, but after I showed how short of a distance I was trying to get and she still refused, I gave up, but it definitely ruined the meal.

I think this is one of those rules that attempts to address a legitimate problem for some guests, but the only way to enforce this rule is to force CMs to act in a very un-Disney manner. Putting CMs between guests and there food around lunch time will always result in CMs having to be rude to get the point across. In my circumstance, I think they were being zealots for the letter of the law out of frustration with the masses.

    1) When in effect, there are definitely signs.
    2) They say the CM will escort you to a table.
    3) And, yes, the family wait outside of the table areas.
    . . . it really doesn't create a big problem
. . . in fact it cures a much bigger problem
. . . it is fair to everyone
. . . it allows a faster turnover of tables
    . . . it let's people get seated quickly
. . . it stops the practice of having to hunt for a table
    4) Although some people will complain, it does work well.
    5) And, considerably better than the current way.

NOTE: If you are standing along the Right wall, I would assume the crowd would have to move for the Fife & Drum Corps to walk past.

This policy was in effect last Christmas when we were there, and it was extremely difficult for us. We are a family of three, and my DS was 1.5 at the time. My DH originally tried to stand with him off to the side in the Columbia Harbor House while waiting on me to get the food, and he kept getting pushed out of the way by CMs who were visibly annoyed with him for being "in the way." He was also getting crushed by crowds of people trying to wait in line. Finally, we got a table, but trying to juggle two trays of food and drinks, plus a diaper bag and a baby was a nightmare. I don't think we'll be doing much CS this year on our December trip for that exact reason (plus, I'm pregnant with child no. 2 and have to sit down often to take breaks). I really hope that the CMs are more accommodating to families with young children, as they appear to be with families with disabled members. If it's okay to let a couple in an ECV or wheelchair sit and wait, why is it not okay to let a pregnant woman with a 2 yr old do the same? Trust me: it'll make the line waiting experience much worse for everyone if I'm stuck in line with my DH, especially since I won't be able to help him carry the food anyway.

I'm not sure if it's at all the CS locations, probably the big/popular locations.

    My observations:

The lines to order were not all that unmanageable. We all stood in line to order (two adults and a 2 year old with stroller folder, diaper bag, etc). One of us got the tray of food, the other the baby and the rest of the goods, no problems.

This was at Pecos Bill, and it was obvious from the outside something was going on different. Exits were blocked, signs posted directing people to the entrance, etc.

Once we got our food, we went to get a table, passed a couple of checkpoints with a CM directing us to available seating. Low and behold, a table for us to sit, got comfy, etc.

We then went back to the fixin's bar to load up our burgers, one at a time so the baby was attended out of the way. No problems returning to our table since we had food.

We eat a hot meal with cold drinks that didn't spill, etc. Talked a little bit about the rest of the day, and moved on.

Once we left, a CM quickly cleaned the table and almost immediately they directed another family to our table who I assumed was going to enjoy another hot meal as we had.

I wasn't stressed about finding a table, it was actually a pretty relaxing meal quite honestly. The kid was fine, he was happy to be in WDW!

We pack light, as I've said before, you pack it, you carry it! We don't go commando at the parks, diaper bag consists of a few diapers, wipes, maybe a little first aid type supplies, hand sanitizer, sun block, and maybe a set of batteries for the camera. Stroller is a lightweight stroller that does it's job, it's not the family truckster model with the retractable 6 person picnic table.

I don't think you'll see this enhanced CS routing done too much in Epcot or AK. Not even sure if it could be done there, and DHS doesn't seem to have all that many locations that I think would benefit from this. The ones I see might be Pecos Bill, Columbia Harbor House and Cosmic Rays.

    Thumbs up

My family and I visited the first week of Dec. '09 and recieved the free quick services dining plan. We have two children ages 14 and 8. My daughter grew tired of the choices on the child's meal plan, and often asked if she could order from the adult plan. This makes me wonder if the new rules are to make sure that credits are being used correctly.Maybe they'd like for the cast members to see who is ordering what so that no one is cheating the system. *Just to let you know we did follow the rules*

I'm sorry you experienced a rude CM, but just from some of the comments on this thread, it's no wonder. And, this is the nicest, most polite discussion board I'm on. People are grumpy when they don't get their way and they can be rude. I would not want to have to be the CM that had to tell 500 people that things were different only to be chastised for it.

If everyone just accepts and follows the new rules, it'll work better for everyone and should, in the long run, be less stressful. Children that have the ability to wait in line for rides should be able to wait in line for food. If people don't want to cart all their stuff through the crowded lines, maybe we should think about hauling less stuff. If peole are tired and just want to sit down, as has been mentioned before, there are usually benches outside or at least a curb. Have a seat and relax. Then, go get some food. Again, I don't want to have to walk around letting my food get cold because someone else pushed themselves too far and is just too tired to wait in line. Of course, this is all from my perspective, because that's how I see things, but I think it'll be better for everyone.

I personally LOVE this idea !!! As the one that had to stand in line and order for the 6 of us and try to remember what everyone else wanted, I am thrilled. Now everyone can wait in line and order their own. And having a CM show me to a table and not have to walk around in circles, that's the icing on the cake for me !!!!

Since our family is now devoid of small children (), I think this will work great for us!

Thinking back on all of the trips we took when the kids were younger, even stroller aged, they always stood in line with us and we didn't ever do the "table saves". Then again, we never once, in all our trips, had any meltdowns from the kids, ever. So, we didn't have to deal with the tired, cranky, screeching child who needs to sit. The more I think about it, we really lucked out!

    I like the new rule!

"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately."

When I read about having checkpoints just to eat CS at WDW, something hit me...

Will Disney allows us to choose between full body scans or enhanced pat-downs, or will only one option be available at Cosmic Rays?

Sorry, I can't help it, it just popped it my head and I couldn't stop laughing (kept picturing TSA agents standing outside Tomorrowland).

This rule was in effect this summer at Pecos Bill. I liked the rule. I'm glad it is being applied other places.

I know Disney is not perfect, but I consider this an improvement. I think they listen more than most companies do.

This was in effect at Peco's Bill for our trip in May. I hated it. Even once we had our food we still couldn't find a table! There was no CM to help us find a table either. There were two cm's standing there making sure you had food to walk past them but that was all they did. I think the food lines are going to be crazy trying to squeeze all the families in there like a herd of cattle. But hey Disney does like to do that (think HM after you exit the little room) Hopefully this plan won't last too long and we can go back to saving seat again.

This was in effect last Thanksgiving at the Tomorrowland Noodle Terrace. It was a huge help--the CM directed us to a table and made sure it was cleaned off. It definitely made things much more efficient!

There are quite a few quick-serve restaurants in Atlanta that operate this way and it makes things run much smoother--almost always there is a table available when you need one!

This is what I'm afraid is going to happen. Before we had kids, we'd stay in line only to find later there were no seats or clean tables. Once we had kids, we learned quickly to grab an open table - it helped us and helped the kids.

I really hope that it works for the better. I guess we'll wait and see if "more government" helps us or hinders us.

    Okay here's another question.
Let's say that my husband is up getting the food, and me and my kids are waiting outside like good citizens of WDW...
But the baby is crying and needs to be fed. Am I not allowed to sit down at a table and feed her baby food while my husband is getting us our food?

    Default Just a TERRIBLE Approach

This approach is pro-turnover and anti-family.

What place does an anti-family approach have at a Disney theme park?

Some families stay together during the whole ordering through pickup process while others split up - is it so wrong to let guests have ANY choice at all about their approach?

    What's next? Fastpasses for restrooms?

This is just one example of a rational mom wanting to do a simple completly rational thing.
Mom feeds the little one while Dad gets the food. When he gets back she eats.

I too do not want this thread to degenerate into sarcastic rants or smug blow-offs like, “It’s in effect so deal with it.”

If everyone who visited WDW did everything the same way at the same time the whole place would break down. The place works because 8am has one family at the rope drop at today’s early EMH park ready to ride a coaster while another has breakfast with characters while another sleeps in from staying up for last night’s EMH.

Being scolded into another queue by a CM more interested in proving how efficiently he make sure everyone marches in step makes me feel less like I’m on vacation and more like my next vacation will be elsewhere.

Rude wrangling of customers, regardless of what Disney-speak calls them, is simply bad business.

Sounds like a good idea to me if they can work the kinks out.

That's exactly how I describe an overzealous employee focused only on the instructions. I've met a few of those at WDW.

It's the cast members who know the instructions and follow the instructions and are always thinking about doing what's right for the Walt Disney Company and it's guests that keep me comng back.
