We are DVC members and we love it there. There are lots of people who don't like it because of no disney theme and it's spread out but it's very peaceful and the grounds are very beautiful. The High Rock Springs Pool is very nice as well. The whole resort is very laid back away from the hussle of the parks. Plus its within a boat ride or walking distance from Downtown Disney.
We are DVC owners at SSR too. We love it for the quiet, peaceful, vacation from our vacation feel. It gives us the opportunity to relax and get away from it all while being so close to it all. Don't know if that really makes sense unless you've been there....
But, our first time staying there, we stayed in the 4000 Springs building on the 3rd floor as close to "outside" staircase closest to the main road. Forgot the room number but, we were 3 doors from the stairwell. THIS WAS PERFECT LOCATION. We stepped out to the Carriage House bus stop, crossed the street to the pool and a few more steps ad we were at Artist Palette and the store. We had the refillable mugs and there is a refill station at the pool. We were able to refill our mugs in less than 2 minutes. To us it was like having the pool in our backyard and the restaruant "just downstairs".
We also stayed in the Grand Stand. While that was far, we were right next to the bridge to walk across the water and it was about a 5 minute walk (leisurely walking). We were also right next to the playground and the bus stop was just beyond the playground. While we waited for the bus, our daughter played on the playground.
The last visit in October, we stayed in the Treehouses. LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT!
We will stay there again eventually. The treehouses are a resort within a resort within Disney resort!
If you will be frequently going to DTD, say in Congress park as close to the walkway. This would be ideal especially if you would like to eat there or get quick service meals there often.
We love it.

Disney is constructing a new, large, and lovely pool over in the 'Paddock' section of Sarasota Springs. You may want to call the resort directly to see when construction will be completed. If it is finished in time for your arrival, you may want to stay over there. If it is not completed, perhaps you would prefer to stay away from a construction mess.
