Mar. 6, 1888 – The City of Marceline, Missouri, Walt’s boyhood hometown, was incorporated.
Mar. 6, 1927 – Gordon Cooper, one of the original Mercury astronauts, was born in Shawnee, Ok. From Jan. 1973 to 1975, he would serve as Vice President for Research and Development/EPCOT for Walter E. Disney Enterprises, Inc. (The research and development subsidiary of Walt Disney Production.)
Mar. 6, 1948 – Musical theater lyricist and composer Stephen Schwartz was born in N.Y.C. (He would go on to collaborate with composer Alan Menken on Disney’s “Pocahontas” and “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”
Mar. 6, 1957 – The Disney TV show aired “Man in Flight.”
Mar. 6, 1958 – Actor Eddie Deezen, the voice of Ned the manager of Bueno Nacho for Disney’s “Kim Possible.” Was born in Cumberland, Md. He also appeared in the TV remake of “The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes.” (You might not recognize his name, but you’ve heard his distinct voice as Pop in the Kellogg’s Rice Krispies commercials. Deezen has also appeared in such features as Grease and 1941.)
Mar. 6, 1959 – The Walt Disney Presents TV show aired episode 5 of “Texas John Slaughter: The Man from Bitter Creek.”
Mar. 6, 1963 – Various versions of the song “There’s A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow,” written by Richard M. and Robert B. Sherman, were recorded for a Disney attraction that would be featured in the upcoming New York World’s Fair. Disney staff composer Buddy Baker has arranged the tune in different musical styles to fit the Carousel of Progress (an attraction to be featured in the General Electric Pavilion.)
Mar. 6, 1968 – Actress Moira Kelly, the voice of Nalain in Disney’s 1998 “The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride,” was born in Queens, N.Y. (TV fans will recognize her from the series One Tree Hill.)
Mar. 6, 1980 – CBS aired a one hour long show titled “ Kraft Salutes Disneyland’s 25th Anniversary”, starring Danny Kaye, Michael Jackson, Annette Funicello, and Buddy Ebsen.
Mar. 6, 1981 – Disney’s live-action comedy feature “The Devil and Max Devlin,” starring Elliot Gould and Bill Cosby, was released.
