    Default New Tram Doors

Doors have been installed on some of the Trams that take you from Mickey & Friends to the parks.

Apparently they are not all done, but that they should all be installed soon.

Here is pic I found on Twitter: DLR Tram with Doors.

Hmmm...I find that odd and a bit unnecessary. If the doors are automated it might be okay, but if they require the driver to open them one by one, that is going to really slow down boarding/unboarding.

Wonder what prompted this? There have been no major accidents as far as I know. Maybe they are getting tired of people ignoring the "No more boarding at this time" and hopping on at the last minute.

The doors are opened and closed by guests. They lock and cannot be opened until the driver releases them.

I figure the lawyers were involved and didn't want the possiblity of a lawsuit if someone fell out.

The only thing that the doors will prevent is people exiting from the wrong side of the tram and the last minute boarders.

From the looks of the picture, it looks like it will slow the boarding & be harder for those with strollers. Possible pinched fingers with the doors. The only positive is the handicap doors. It looks like it gives more security for those that can't transfer from their wheelchairs.

Thanks for clearing that up about the doors. Although, some of the DL rides use a similar system and the doors get stuck a lot too, causing the driver to have to come manually release them. Casey Jr. circus train and Heimlich's train come to mind...

I do appreciate that they will stop people from hopping on after the announcement has been made to NOT do so. That is so annoying. Will also prevent overpacking of the rows, if people can't allow their feet to "hang off", they won't be as likely to engage in this behavior.

This will certainly slow things down. What comes to mind for me as a reason for the doors, are children. I cringe when I see someone put a child next to the opening of the seating row.

If this slows the boarding process down too much, I will just be walking to the resort from M&F.

The tram boarding process is already handled poorly without the doors. This is going to add more frustration to guests at a time when they don't want any.

From what I heard, the rumor is someone fell from the tram (after falling asleep) and was injured. Not sure if hey sued, probably did ... Anyway that prompted the doors being put on the trams. Disney is not going to spend money on anything they don't have to .... They've gone this long without doors, so it makes sense that this is a reaction to something that happened.

I head that MegaDisney tumbled out of the tram after 1 too many margaritas at the Cove Bar in DCA.

I agree Chris, this seems like a waste, but I guess at the end of the day it's just doors so possible extra 2 minutes to close the doors won't really matter.

Installation of tram doors was not in response to a particular incident.

The route from the Simba parking area has to cross Disneyland Drive and with the loss of the Timon lot for the Cars Land expansion it is likely that future parking needs for the resort will require using the former strawberry fields across Katella/Harbor for additional parking.

So trams sharing or crossing public roads with other vehicles would need to have doors installed.

Thanks Mufasa, after all these years I know when you speak we are getting facts. And yes what you say makes so much sense. (Although I will still cringe with children sitting next to the exits.)
Say, by the way Intercot has found it's way to FaceBook. Hope to see you there as well.

    Thanks for the clarification Mufasa.

So they are just gonna use trams to transport from the offisite lot until the Monorail is expanded to the new site, 3rd Gate and new Hotel?

I just got back from a morning at Disneyland. None of the trams running between M&F and Downtown Disney had doors. There were about four of them running between 9:30 and 1pm and they were all sans doors.

That makes sense Mufasa ... Nice to find out the reason for the doors.
