    Question Haunted Mansion

    Potential SPOILER warning

This question relates to the mechanics of HM's pre-show room, the one within which you are assembled into the dead-centre.

Does this room stretch, as in the ceiling rises, or is it an elevator as in California (where the actual ride is on the other side of the MK Railroad)?

Being a techy I'm interested to find out.

The ceiling rises as the room stretches, because it started doing it one day and the doors were still open. The floor in the stretching room and the room outside of it wasn't moving down, so it couldn't have been an elevator.

At Disneyland, the major portion of the ride is underground - outside of the perimeter of the park. So, they have an elevator that goes down to access the rest of the ride outside of the perimeter.

    In DW, the ceiling rises.

    Thanks!

As a follow on - does anybody know what happens within the Phantom Manor at Disneyland Paris?

Slightly off topic, but has anyone waited until the end of the stretch room has emptied. The gargoyles on the walls have sinister laughs and whisper certain phrases. I have never been able to hear what they are saying.

It's cool the way these show elements were added for logistics reasons, but became integral parts of the show. Both the Haunted Mansion and Pirates Of The Caribbean were first created at Disneyland where the park had run out of room to fit them. To solve the problem, they moved the show buildings outside the berm, necessitating the double-waterfall on POTC and the stretching room elevator on HM, so the guests would be escorted under the train tracks and out into the show buildings in the parking lot.

When the attractions were brought to WDW, there was room inside the MK for the attractions, so these elements weren't necessary for logistics reasons, but were retained for show value.

I'm curious as well. I heard those a year or so ago, and had never heard them previously... with the result being that it was a spooky (creepy!) new aspect to the ride for me.

They say things like "get out", "keep moving", etc.

I have been there when both doors (in and out) were open and yes, the ceiling definitely does rise.

The stretch room at Disneyland Paris is just like the one at WDW - the ceiling rises.

I'd read somewhere the ceiling rises in one park and the floor sinks at the other..now that I know I feel better...Still this is my FAVORITE ride there!!!
