    Question Infamous "Love Bugs"

Just wondering if anyone has an update on those darn love bugs. I heard that they come around every sept for about a week and we leave in 5 days (!!!!!) Last time we went they were EVERYWHERE and so annoying. Thanks for the help!

They are here in May and September. They were very, very light in our area this past May. They don't sting or bite or anything, so they aren't really anything to worry about.
    Many, many visits since 1973....

What's love got to do with it?

There are in full force in LA right now! There are bug guts all over my van!!!
Wrong will be right, when Aslan comes in sight,
At the sound of his roar, sorrows will be no more,
When he bares his teeth, winter meets its death,
And when he shakes his mane, we shall have spring again.

Haven't seen one yet. But when they come, they come in swarms.

Like Sharon1026 said, they don't sting or bite... the only bad thing they do is mess up the clear-coat on your car if you leave their splattered bodies on your paint too long. Allegedly.

There's a car wash at the Hess station near Caribbean Beach Resort if you get paranoid. I've had love bugs on my car for weeks, washed them off, and never saw any damage.

This is a fact. Their smashed little bodies eat away paint like acid. If you were lucky enough to not have any damage then your clear coat must still be thick enough... we deal with these pesky little things twice a year and some times (like now) they are so thick it is like standing in a black cloud. I guess the clear coat just wears down after a while.

Like the others said, they do not hut you, but it is a little freaky to feel a bug land on you if you do not know what it is.

We are hoping that Gustav blows them all away. But, that would just mean that they are going to spread to another state....

I guess if you've never seen them, they seem kinda strange. They are small insects, longer and thinner than houseflies, and they fly a lot slower. They are black with a little red spot on them. The funniest thing about them is that you almost always see them in pairs, joined at the rear. So one is flying forward, the other, backwards.

We were there at the same time and I agree - but it's really not so bad - oddly, it was almost exclusively at the resort that we ran into any real issues. There were always tons of them on our door - we were staying at POP - so it was a trick to open the door, get in and not let any bugs in. Aside from that, not a huge deal. With or without the bugs - enjoy!!

Yea 2006 was the last time I was there and they just covered everything. You had to shoo them away to even sit at a bench. I did notice they were worse at the AKL and the water parks. But were still everywhere.

If they were "light " in may does that mean they should be light in sept???

They seemed to be a lot worse in 2006 than last year. I hardly remember them at all in 2007. I also think that the lovebugs were heavier at AK.

I had never noticed the Lovebugs until our trip in 2006 (late September). They were awful. Last year (mid-September) they were not bad at all. In 2006 we stayed at All-Star Movies (appropriately in the Love Bug section) and you couldn't even get the door open to your room without getting some of the bugs in there. Maybe with all the storms, it will keep them all away.

I saw one on Sunday and it was enough to freak me out.

Then again I am a huge wimp when it comes to those types of things!

Haven't seen any yet since May's semi-annual lovefest.

Then again, it's only September 2nd.

Don't worry about the ones at WDW. They're not real. They're all sub-sub-miniature audio-animatronics.

Reminds me of the episode of Roseanne where the Conner family goes to WDW. Roseanne sees a seagull eating popcorn and calls it a "robot," then sees a guy sitting on a bench and also calls him a "robot." Jackie points out the correct term is audio-animatronic, or something like that.

    Cool

My only experience with a Love Bug was the year we stayed at All Star Movies.... I saw the biggest Love Bug I've ever seen. But I thought it was pretty cool.
