July 6, 1915 – Laverne Andrews, one-third of the popular singing trio the Andrew Sisters, and lent their singing voices to Disney’s “Make Mine Music” and “Melody Time,” was born in Minneapolis, Mn.
July 6, 1918 – Actor Sebastian Cabot, who narrated Disney’s 1968 “Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day,” the 1977 “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh,” and lent his voice to Disney’s “The Jungle Book,” and “The Sword and the Stone,” was born London, England.
July 6, 1921 – Bill Shirley, the voice of Prince Philip in Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty,” was born in Indianapolis, Indiana.
July 6, 1925 – Walt and Roy Disney put up a $400 deposit on a lot at 2719 Hyperion Ave., in the Silver Lake district of Los Angeles, Ca. Their plan was to build a new animation studio. (The single story building would serve as Disney’s base for the next fifteen years.
July 6, 1932 – Author Kenneth Grahame passed away in England. His famous story The Wind in the Willows, featuring his most famous character Mr. Toad, would be featured in the 1949 Disney animated film “The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad.”
July 6, 1938 – Actress Luana Pattern, one of the first two contract players for Disney, was born in Long Beach, Ca. She would make her debut in Disney’s 1946 “Song of the South” (playing the role of Ginny). Pattern would go on to appear in such Disney classics as “Fun and Fancy Free,” “Pecos Bill,” and “So Dear to My Heart.”
July 6, 1951 – Actor Geoffrey Rush, who appeared as Barbossa in Disney’s live-action film “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl,” and supplied the voice of Nigel in “Finding Nemo,” was born in Australia.
July 6, 1971 – Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong, who recorded an album titled “Disney Songs the Satchmo Way” in the mid 1960’s, and appeared as a guest on the 1962 TV special “Disneyland After Dark,” died at the age of 69 in New York City.
July 6, 1978 – The cast of TV’s “The New Mickey Mouse Club” performed 4 shows at Disneyland’s Space Stage Theatre in Tomorrowland. (The open amphitheatre would eventually become the home for the “Honey I Shrunk the Audience” attraction.)
July 6, 1993 – Actor Jeremy Suarez, the voice of Coda in Disney’s 2003 “Brother Bear,” was born in Reno, Nv.
