Response from Disney about VMK

I got a response from Disney Reguarding VMK Today doesn't look good at all

Hey VMKers,

Thank you for contacting The Walt Disney Company and VMK.

We have received an outpouring of feedback regarding our decision to
close VMK. We are overwhelmed by the responses and enthusiasm of our
guests, but unfortunately our decision to eventually close VMK is set. We
have explored many different options, including a pay to play model but
have decided to focus more of our time on our new virtual worlds coming
soon, which we are sure that you will love as much as VMK.

Deciding to close VMK was a very difficult decision for us because we
loved creating VMK just as much as you loved playing it. But in a
company that encourages innovation and creativity we have decided to “keep
moving forward” and exploring where the future takes as, because in
the words of Walt Disney, “We keep moving forward, opening new doors,
and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading
us down new paths.”

Thank you for being part of this journey with us, and we hope we
continue to see you at Disney.com enjoying what we imagine next!

I guess it doesn't matter how many want to keep it open their decision is set

You know it really bugs me when they quote Walt in order to justify a bad decision. Walt was about plussing things that were successful not taking them away.

If you want to quote Walt about VMK how looking towards some of his Epcot quotes about a Community of Tomorrow or creating a place that children and adults can have fun together. Or that it will never be completed as long as their imagination left in the world.

I have to agree with you. I mean don't sit and quote Walt like that only makes it worse. I mean that quote is about starting new things which hey I totally agree with although I must have missed the part of the quote where it said to close doors in which people don't want closed.

I guess they have also missed the parts in everybody's letters about not wanting to go to the other games....

Personally, I have never seen Disney back away from a decision, based on customer feed back.. so, I wouldn't hold onto any hope they will change their mind no matter how many letters they get.

I got the same letter from disney as well. They really don't care about us at all. I wrote them back a letter saying i would rather play vmk and that toon town isn't much fun and that club penguin is all penguins and that potc isn't much fun. I wonder how long it will be before they close those games down too. I say once vmk closes we unsubscribe to disney and everything that has to do with them.

I was a Disney Fan long before VMK so I would never stop being one because they have closed VMK.

While I was a Disney Fan long before VMK this type of treatment towards customers is becoming far too common for my liking. Unfortunately the only things a company like Disney responds to are bad press and loss of profits.

about the Walt Disney quotes. It bugs me to no end I knew they weren't going to change it, they probably already expected lots of petitions and emails requesting to keep VMK open. I guess they were well prepared, maybe they wrote the email beforehand

I've seen this letter posted elsewhere and it was brought out that there is still hope. This person helped fight CBS to bring back the show Jerico when it was cancelled. They got the same response (our decision is set, it's not coming back) so they went higher and got a campaign going that was very well advertised in the media. They got the show back.

This letter is from Disney's internet group. We have to go higher to the big cheese himself, Mr Iger. Let him know the response we've received. Fight every statement they bring out. It's beyond me and us all why they would try something else when VMK is so popular!

I wish I was closer to the Disney Headquaters. A rally outside of there, NOT in or around the parks as other sites have been talking about, would definatly bring attention to this cause.

I'm not giving up until 7am May 22 when I go to log in and it's not there. The more I think about this the sadder and madder I get and once I get my thoughts straight, Mr Iger and the rest of the main Disney dudes are going to be getting email, letters and faxes from me every day!

Guys have any of you read the letter on save vmk today .com? You might want too. They said we might get something like this from disney and to not give up. Keep writing to disney and tell them we want them to keep vmk online.

I don't personally know a lot about the inner machinations of the Disney Corporation, but do know a little about Corporations in general since my wife does traing on an international level for some very large corporations (and I've done some contract jobs) including a few who have in turn done jobs for Disney.
My opinion based on everything we've seen so far & from what little I know is that it probably isn't going to change, no matter how much we want it to be so. I am hopefully optimistic, yet cautiously realistic at the same time.
I'm thinking that if everyone that they're trying to corral over to Club Penguin/POTC and whatever else they offer us simply DOESN'T go for it, then they'll see that maybe the public was serious about wanting VMK and nothing but VMK.

But, that's just my opinion...
