Default My Three Sons Trip Report Day 1 3/27/07

    TR: March 27 - April 1 - Day 1

    Participants:
    Trev
    DG (Disney Grandma)
    DS1 (Disney Son 1, the oldest, 7)
    DS2 (Disney Son 2, a twin, 4)
DS3 (Disney Son 3, the other twin, 4)

    Walt Disney World Day 1

Having spent the night at the Comfort Inn Lake Buena Vista (late night
arrival the night before), we woke up and took a Town and Country
Transportation van over to the Polynesian Resort and checked in at
about 10:00 AM with no wait. Wow! Our room was already available! We
were assigned room 3321 in the Fiji longhouse on the 3rd floor with a
very nice view of the marina and the GCH. The room smelled very clean
and everything seemed to be in perfect order. DG was impressed this
being her very first stay at a Disney Resort, although she didn't like
that the carpet was still a bit damp from the shampooing, it didn't
bother me a bit and I reassured DG that the carpet would soon dry. The
children were so excited to be at Disney World they could hardly stand
it and honestly, so was I. While DG called down to Bell Services and
arranged for the luggage to be brought up, DS1 and I walked down to
Captain Cook's and purchased 3 refillable mugs, total being close to
40 dollars! Well, I thought that was a bit much but justified it being
that they were cool souvenirs and that they could be refilled 24 hours
a day, and that we would be there for 6 days. I'm sure now that they
paid for themselves as the boys were often thirsty. After the luggage
was delivered, we all decided we were hungry and made our way over to
Ohana to see if we could get breakfast with Lilo and Stitch without a
reservation (we had missed our ADR at the Crystal Palace at 9:30 AM)
and sure enough, they sat us right away. First we had to take a
picture together, then we were seated in an area that was rather quiet
and away from all of the activity of the main room. I was actually
happy that we were seated away from the crowd so that we could talk
and hear each other...Mickey, Stitch, Lilo and I believe Goofy all
came to our table twice and Mickey actually sat with us for a bit and
interacted with DS3 who was absolutely thrilled! Stitch stole some of
that delicious pineapple bread from us and made us all laugh. I was
stunned at the amount of time the characters spent with us. The food
was very good and satisfied us all, even DG liked it. Our server was
aware that we were on the dining plan but I did not notice any
difference in the quality of our service. In fact she was extremely
attentive and very friendly! We bought the souvenir photograph and
headed to the monorail station for our ride over to the Magic Kingdom.
The boys got to ride up front and really enjoyed that. The crowds were
very light at the Magic Kingdom so we really got to take our time and
soak in the fact that we were finally here. We found our way to
Fantasyland and went on Snow White, which DS2 was terrified of for
some reason. Later on he told me it was the witch holding the
poisonous apple that scared him so. We all saw Philharmagic and just
loved it. DS1 and I had seen this on a previous trip but the rest of
the group had not so that was a lot of fun, seeing their reaction to
it. The music in that movie is so beautiful it gives me the chills. We
also went on It's a Small World, the Tea Cups, and Goofy's
Barnstormer, although DS1 wouldn't have anything to do with roller
coasters so he sat that one out with DG. The twins were getting tired
so we headed back to the Polynesian where they took a nap with DG. DS1
and I filled a couple of mugs with soda concoctions and went swimming
at the volcano pool and had a blast. DS1 loved the slide and just kept
running back up the volcano for another run. I tried it once and it is
fun but the tube found me somewhat claustrophobic. DS1 and I went back
to the room after about an hour of swimming and everyone was still
asleep so we snuck off to the Magic Kingdom and went on Haunted
Mansion, Pirates of the Caribbean (they've worked in Jack Sparrow
perfectly in my opinion) and Buzz Lightyear Space Ranger Spin. Most of
the rides had little to no wait. We met up with DG, DS2 and 3 and went
on Buzz Lightyear again and several others. The boys really enjoyed
the Tomorrowland Transportation ride. We had dinner at Casey's which
was very good. We sat outside at a table and watched Spectromagic
while we ate. We were standing in line for Peter Pan's Flight when
Wishes started. The booming of the fireworks was very loud being that
we were practically right underneath them. We were all finally too
tired to move so we took the boat back to the Polynesian. DS1 and I
played a couple of games of air hockey in the arcarde. We fell asleep
that night watching old Disney cartoons after an episode of the Suite
Life (the boys just love that show). We were exhausted but happy.

Wow! What an AMAZING first day! It sounds like you really made the most of it too, with a character breakfast at your resort, going to the Magic Kingdom, swimming in the pool, watching SpectroMagic and Wishes, and playing in the arcade, that's a lot! Glad to hear how much fun you had, can't wait to read the next installment!

WOW! You did all that in ONE day, when you didn't even check in until 10??

Sounds like a great start to your trip. Did the carpet ever dry out?

What a great start to your vacation! It's always nice when there's little to no wait for rides and you can get so much done. I bet DS1 was having a blast having you to himself for all those ride & swimming & the arcade.

I have 3 sons too. My four year old has already informed me he will not ride Snow White because it's scary. Looks like you had a great first day. Thanks for reporting.
