May 1, 1998 – Disneyland Paris presented its “Festival of Flowers” around the park.
May 1, 1998 – The Disney/Touchstone Picture film “He Got Game” was released in theaters.
May 1, 1999 – Disney’s ABC Saturday Morning cartoon “Mickey Mouse Works” debuted on television. (Ended Jan. 6, 2001)
May 1, 2001 – Disney’s “The Emperor’s New Groove” was released on VHS and DVD.
May 1, 2001 – Because the city of Anaheim, Ca. receives 2 to 5 emergency calls a day from Disney (including heart attacks and heat strokes as well as accidents) two teams of paramedics this day. The 12 paramedics, who are expected to shave precious minutes off response time to any accident in the parks, will officially work for the city of Anaheim (However, Disney will pay the city $1.4 million a year to cover the labor costs, and will provide housing and transportation in the resort). WDW in Orlando, Fl. already has paramedics within its parks. The Disneyland Resort is getting them now because of the recent expansion.
May 1, 2001 – The theme park attraction “Countdown to Extinction” in Dinoland in the Animal Kingdom in WDW changed its name to “Dinosaur!”
May 1, 2002 – The Sherman Brothers were honored at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in California. Dick Van Dyke appeared with his own Barbershop quartet “The Vantastix,” accompanied by the Jr. Philharmonic Orchestra. They performed Sherman songs from “Mary Poppins,” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang,” which both featured Dick Van Dyke.
May 1, 2004 – The “Festival of Balloons,” gigantic balloon sculptures was held in the Disneyland Hotel lobby.
May 1, 2005 – The 2005 Walt Disney World Inline Marathon and Half Marathon was held.
May 1, 2006 – Beginning on this day, Disney fans can purchase a new Disney Gift Card which could be used at the WDW Resort, Disneyland, all Disney Store locations in the U.S., Disneyshopping.com, and the Disney Cruise Line.
