We will be visiting City Walk but not the parks. Does City Walk have its own free parking or do we need to pay as though we were visiting the parks?
If no free parking, is it possible to park outside Universal and walk to City Walk?

Yes, you have to pay for parking, even when "just" going to City Walk.
Current prices are:
Regular Parking $15.00 ($5.00 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.* - after 10 p.m. parking is free).
I wouldn't suggest trying to park somewhere else. The walk to City Walk from the Universal parking lots is a hike so I would imagine parking outside of the property would take you forever to get in. Plus you would be going over very very busy streets. I have never tried it so I could be wrong but I wouldn'r suggest it.
That's one of my gripes about CityWalk. It's a nice area to see and walk around, but you have to pay to park...unlike Downtown Disney. They do have some nice clubs there...some have a cover charge though.
I wouldn't recommend parking offsite and walking because the streets that are close to the property are usually very busy.
does citywalk have the same things as downtown disney ? like restaurants & shops ? which do you prefer ? my wife just brought up to possibly visit citywalk , but not universal. we are doing the dream in july.
thanks in advance
They are very similar. We personaly prefer Citywalk over DTD when going to eat but prefer going to DTD when we want to shop are just spend a few hours wandering. They're both great. DTD is a little more laid back while Citywalk is a little more upbeat. It's definitely worth the trip.
