Nike CEO to join Disney's Board of Directors
This just came across the internal Nike news feed.
From the Portland Business Journal:
The Walt Disney Co. has named Nike CEO Mark Parker to its board of directors. The appointment is effective immediately.
"As CEO of Nike, Mark is widely recognized for driving the stellar growth of an industry-leading brand," said Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chairman and CEO, in a news release. "His keen insight into consumers and his broad experience in international markets make him a great fit for the Disney Board."
Parker will stand for election with other directors at the company's annual meeting on March 3.
"I'm honored to be named a director of Disney," Parker said, in a news release. "For decades, Disney has delivered truly elevated consumer experiences globally, inspiring generations with creativity and vision. I look forward to working with this team as the company continues to set its sights on the future."
A Nike lifer, Parker was named CEO of the sportswear company in 2006. At the time, Nike co-founder Phil Knight said Parker would "become the best CEO this company has ever had."
He's lived up to Knight's bold prediction.
Nike has doubled in size under Parker's leadership. Sales hit $30.6 billion in the most recent fiscal year and the company plans to hit $50 billion by 2020.
Fortune Magazine in November named Parker its businessperson of the year. In January 2015, the Business Journal named Parker its CEO of the Year.
Maybe now, when I want to take time off to go to WDW, I won't get so much flak.
