Looks like Orange County returns to school on August 20th. The summer crowds seem to be a mix of all the school across the US. Crowds do tend to diminish the later in August you go to Disney.
We start here in Tampa August 21st. I have definitely found these last few years that the last week in August you do see a drop in crowds, although you still have to consider Labor Day. September is still my favorite month regarding crowds, but it's still quite hot.
I love going in September after Labor Day . I went once years ago an did everything twice at MK inside of 90 mins . Only draw back is hurricane season . :mickey:
It varies by county (there are 67 counties).
But August 20 or 27 is the norm.

We are booked for the same week. I went in 2010 for the third week of August when the southern schools were back in session and the crowds were down, as compared to when I was there in July and at Spring Break. Bonus was the weather wasn't actually bad, it was upper 80s. It was actually hotter back home in NJ.Quote:

We did both last year and I would say the crowds in late August were a bit lower, it was especially noticeable at DHS. We didn't see as many groups either during August. Doing it again this year and hoping for the same.Quote:

Different counties/cities school systems start on different dates. Most school systems in the south now start well before Labor Day, now that schools have A.C. We live in Georgia and our county starts school on August 1. So, the later in August you visit, the more kids will be back in school.

We're going this year, August 19 - September 1, and we're bailing out before Labor Day weekend. I'm praying the crowd predictions I'm getting are right for those weeks, because after the 19th, there seems to be a moderate drop, and then after the 26th, they predict low crowds all week. :mickey:
Also, I hope we get no hurricanes or tropical storms! :(
Is labor Day weekend itself very crowded? We will be there on the 1st (Sat) and most of the day on the 2nd before we head back to the airport for an 8:45 pm flight back to BOS.
Well, I subscribe to a crowd calendar, which I confess I haven't put to the test yet, but they predict crowds of 4 out of 10, 6 out of 10, and 6 out of 10 for the three weekend days over the holiday. Take that for what it is worth, because I find that predicting the future is somewhat futile.
From my only experience, I recall being at the Magic Kingdom on the Saturday before Labor Day in 2003, and the lines were insane during the middle of the day, most around 1+ hours for all the major rides, and everything else was uncomfortably crowded too. I don't know how that translates to this year's crowds, but that's my experience.
Any idea what the crowd calendar shows for 8/18-8/26?
Miami, August 20th Oh man! I just looked this up and the poor kids their summer is almost over :( For me its the traffic :ack:. It becomes a nightmare when school starts.
