I guess I'd better go see the back side of water one last time.
I have seen these rumors too, the movie looks like it is a go but from what I see at this point Disney Imagineering still denies there are any plans to make any changes to the jungle Cruise ride itself.
I can definitely see them making changes in the future by putting additional animatronics or figures in the ride to reflect the movie if it is successful just like POTC.
I just hope if they do decide to make changes they are minor changes and do not change the whole storyline of this classic ride or the corney puns and jokes of the "captains" dialogue.
JC and POTC are both must do's on all of our trips just for the nostalgia. I like riding the rides with my children that I recall riding with my parents on our visit as a child.
There were a bunch of articles on this end of April/beg of May but nothing concrete. Most just said The Rock and his ex-wife met with imagineers, Disney's response in the Orlando Sentinel was that they have no plans in the works to change the ride. For other articles you can just google The Rock redesigns jungle cruise.
Some rides, I don't need to. If they want to change Swiss (needs to), Space Mountain, Monsters Inc, etc. Sure, I'm open to the changes.
POTC, JC, Tiki, Peter Pan, and Wedway. Hands off. Its already too late for POTC (I would have preferred a 2nd Pirates the movie ride).
Dince I don't even know who this "Rock" person is, but I do remember looking at Jungle Cruise scenes through my View master when I was a child, my opinion's pretty obvious. Yup, I too will be going to see the current JC one last time. Anyone know when it might close?
It is still pretty early in the rumor mill, but with a new JC movie coming out next year, sure it'll follow. Unless they bankrupt themselves on Star Wars :)
I don't want to judge just yet. Maybe the movie will be like the actual ride. POTC didn't change that much after it's movie franchise.
Yeah, I still didn't like those changes. Some rides to me shouldn't be touched, unless to improve the qualities of the existing content (newer speakers, newer animatronics, etc).
Financials are okay, but any huge capex can sway how good they are in appearance to the board. Besides, only takes 1 scandal to change that. But, I was only joking about that. They are spending a lot of money on Star Wars, but that is a money maker. You throw anything out w/ SW on it, and people eat it up. Case in point, Force Awakens. BLAH
In general, I'm not too keen on any changes to my sentimental favorites. The Jungle Cruise is one of these. But...I'll remain open until I've actually seen these changes. Actually, I had no idea that they were making a live action movie based on the ride. I think I'm more upset about this than I am about the potential ride updates. Not a huge fan of The Rock. The ads for his silly football show on HBO really cut into my enjoyment of The Game of Thrones. :ack:
That said, I DID love Moana.
I know I'm going get blasted for saying this but oh what the heck ...
I rode the Jungle Cruise when we were down in May and I gotta say I came away like, "Wow. That ride has really turned into a stinker." This is one of many rides that counted heavily on two elements; a clear, solid story and a great guide. With the mega decline in the quality of cast over the last two decades and the odd muddling of the story that's occurred to please ... someone ... I'm not exactly sure who ... the ride has become really badly disjointed, corny, and oddly annoying. All I wanted to do was get off the boat. Our guide was nearly inaudible and what I did hear was delivered in a horrid monotone voice that lacked even the slightest bit of enthusiasm or "selling" of the story (what little there is left).
And then like I noticed that for some reason I fail to understand there's no longer a bunch of rhinos around the guys on the totem pole? It's turned into a bunch of hyenas standing under them laughing. Which, of course, makes absolutely no sense since they seem to be laughing at them for being stuck on a pole but they're only stuck on a pole because of what? Hyenas? Meh.
I saw somewhere the rhinos were being refurbed, but have no verification of that.
We rode last fall, and our skippers were still great (we rode 2-3 times). I'm sure there is some luck of the draw, as usual with anything to do w/ the CMs. So, rather than change the ride, they should improve their staffing (training, hiring, pay, whatever). That would improve the experiences across all attractions and resorts. Though the biggest area where I'm seen CM change is in the retail and dining areas.
The only thing I don't like about JC, is the awkward position I have to sit in to look out. But, I can live to see such a fun, and endearing attraction.
Unfortunately that's never going to happen. There just isn't a deep enough pool of talent to staff the positions that's also willing to live up to historical Disney standards and work for minimum wage. And God forbid Bob Iger and the rest of his overpaid stuff suits would take some pay cuts and live on a "meager" $10 million a year instead of the hundreds of millions they make now!
I guess I'm just not sentimental enough.
Jungle Cruise actually seems to generate long wait times most of day, but I can't figure out why! No way I'm wasting a FP for a ride I don't even enjoy. It was fun the first time, back in 1983! But the last time, which was 15 years ago, no one on my boat even laughed at the jokes. Okay, I'm a little more sentimental when it comes to Pirates, but still enjoyed the updates to the ride. Tiki Birds and Country Bears...sorry, not feeling it.
While I'm not a huge fan and can skip it most of the time, I do have some friends that enjoy that type of humor. It makes me laugh when I see them having such a great time on it. The back side of water is a running joke that my ex-boyfriend and I have, because it is referred to in World of Warcraft.
I completely understand Texas211's point of view though. The things I enjoy, I return to time and again because I like them exactly as they are. If I wanted something different, I would have found something different. I don't need to see the end result to know that it isn't exactly the way I like it.
I have to agree with this. The Jungle Cruise has a specific type of comedy that only appeals to those types of people. I feel that it doesn't make the ride good or bad or people good or bad. Everyone is different and the park has stuff for everyone. My dad LOVED Country Bears. I dreaded going in there every trip. Although it makes me smile and think of him when I walk by it, I won't ever walk through those doors again. (Although as soon as I say never, something will make me go in there. lol)
I used to dread going into Country Bear... but that's because the moose/bison/deer heads on the wall scared me when I was little. Now when we go that's become a recurring joke! :D
Ya know, I have to agree with you that it has fallen from grace, but for some crazy (or corny) reason I still find it to be one of my all-time-favorites. I like it best after dark, it seems a little more "real" ... It does need a major re-haul and when they do, maybe they will drift back to the original storyline ... I hope !!
How about we just remove that waste of space entirely? I have never understood the fascination with this ride and it takes up a huge space plot of land that could be used to put in a great attraction.
I have ridden this twice in the past several months and I am convinced they need to improve the quality of the sound system and get the skippers to really work on their delivery. While the entire ride needs some TLC, the audio on the two rides was night and day with one ride really clear and coherent and the other barely intelligible. I do enjoy the oldies (JC,POTC,Tiki,CB,COP) but the wait for this one is not worth the hit or miss skippers. Luckily the last ride (the worst of the 2) was with FP so we didn't waste too much time for that trip.
All this talk about the skippers... Yes, the skippers totally make this attraction.... A bad skipper can ruin the experience... Fortunately I haven't had a bad skipper... In fact, my last trip December 2015, the female skipper on my cruise was probably the best I ever had... Funny, friendly, and her joke timing was spot on... However, I wouldn't wait in regular queue for it... FP or not ride...
Funny you say that...
Please don't take that to mean anything...
Fact is the "river" that holds the water isn't in the best of shapes... And it is only being fixed with band aids... They have been lucky so far that they haven't had a massive leak... So instead of doing what is necessary to fix, they Elmer's glue it... Like the condition of Space Mountain... Only so much tape they can use to hold the metal structure together, especially since it is way past its shelf life...
But as far as I know, Jungle Cruise isn't going anywhere...
Nope... That was the plan, and that's what has to be done... But they didn't rebuild it... TDO wouldn't pay for the complete rebuild...
Once Tron opens, maybe that will be another story...
***EDIT: Trying to find out EXACTLY what was done... But I know a complete replacement wasn't...
