We've stayed there 5 or 6 times (5 of us and they have a trundle bed) and we loved it. You feel a little more secluded than at some of the resorts and I'm assuming its quieter than most too! We wont be able to stay there if we go again because the kids have out grown the trundle bed:( but we always thought it was a great value for us. I would suggest you try and get a room near the main bldg cause it can be quite spread out and make for a long walk to the food court! We liked bldgs 18 14 or 15...near the pools and the food court! If you are into walking after the parks it is a beautiful walk around the river! You should have no complaints! Enjoy!
:welcome:
Peter Pan, welcome to INTERCOT!
It's been a while since we stayed at Port Orleans Riverside. It had a decent food court and the landscaping of the resort was awesome.
Here's a recent thread that might help you out: POR tips for a newbie?
I LOVE this resort! Make sure to take some time and walk around the resort and check out old man's island ( the main pool). Also try the pasta bowl at riverside mill and take a river cruise to DTD :mickey:
PS You'll have to remind yourself that you are at WDW though :D
I will be there starting Sunday Labor Day week end. I really think that you will enjoy the stay, the hardest thing that I found to do was Not to relax..
Enjoy:cloud9:
We have stayed there on 4 different occasions and have really enjoyed it. The last time that we were there (2009) we rented surrey bikes and had a blast riding around the resort. The boat ride to DTD is really great too!
My family and I loved the Riverside. We stayed in Alligator Bayou. The resort is absolutely beautiful. Our favorite part was the boatride to DTD. We stopped off at the French Quarter for beniegs and then continued to DTD. Take time to explore and enjoy, especially at dusk!
Have a magical trip. :tink:
We stayed for the first time last october and we loved it! We were in the allegator buyeau. It's a very peaceful and beautiful resort which is nice after being in the parks all day.
You'll also want to stop by and listen to Piano Man Bob at the River Roost! It's great fun!
My DW and I have stayed there several times. My many advise is to catch the bus from the main building and not one of the 3 bus stops. You certainly can get off that the other 3 stops, but if the bus if full in the morning, sometimes it goes straight to the parks and skips the other 3 stops.
Dw wife and I are actually working on planning our next trip in 2012 at Riverside.
We have stayed at POR at least 4 or 5 times. Years ago, when it was Dixie Landings and our kids were young (now 23 or 25) we absolutely LOVED it. The food court was wonderful, loved the grounds...transportation was great. Two summers ago, we took our daughter and a friend, and since we needed 2 rooms, we decided to go back to POR. I know that there are hundreds of people who absolutely love it, but it was not a good experience for us at all. Although we requested a room close to the main building, we were at the complete opposite end of the resort, which is quite large. The fan in the Bathroom whistled and chirped ALL night. We called maintenance...2 hours later, in the middle of the night, they arrived. Said they had to send someone else....they would be back the next day. We checked b4 we left for the parks and they said it would be completed when we returned...again, it was not. They finally had it fixed the third day. When we asked them to move us, they said they had no place to move us to. I know this is rare and like I said, we absolutely loved it before this experience. It is a beautiful resort, especially for the money, the food in the food court is good, the riverboat to DTD is a nice ride, etc., but I would be sure to ask for a room close to the main building...but....anyplace in Disney is wonderful!
Port Orleans Riverside is a great resort. We stayed there for 10 days last summer and loved it.
- My kids loved the pool, especially the slide.
- I agree with the advocates of the Make-your-own-pasta-bowl at Riverside Mill. Wish I could have that for lunch right now!!!
- We ate at Boatwright's our first night, and thought our entree was one of the best of the week.
- POR is a great place to take a walk. Take time to explore your resort!!!
- Boat to Downtown Disney is handy, and you can also take it, or walk, to the French Quarter, and you're allowed to use their pool.
- I wouldn't recommend the four person tandem bikes, unless you have the legs of Hercules...
- Riverside Mill is good, but it can get chaotic in the morning and late at night!
We always stayed there before becoming DVC members. We have the best family memories from there. Last October we didn't want to use our points and decided to stay there. It is my favorite moderate. The food court is very good there. Enjoy your stay.
Been there when i was a kid when it was Dixie Landings. Aside from the annoying POR sign, just as great and loved it. Quiet, comfortable, and relaxing. Perfect Disney resort.
We've stayed at all the moderates and POR is our favorite! Enjoy! :mickey:
One of the good things about POR is all of the trees and shade in the heat of the summer. Even if your room is in one of the buildings on the outskirts of the property, the walk is still enjoyable. We liked POR and it was really quiet even at full capacity around the 4th of July.
We just got back from this resort and I have to say we won't go back.
The room was clean, as always. Alligator Bayou #24
However, the resort outside is really run-down. The gutters are rotted away, mold is growing rampant on the outside and the landscaping around the pool was unkempt and overrun with mosquitos, spiders and some other biting flies. Appon arriving tothe room we had to call maintenance immediately to fix broken electrical outlets. Additionaly, There were no pool towels, the walk to the main building from #24 was rediculous and the all-night parties in the pool (2AM+) showed that hotel staff either won't or can't control the atmosphere.
I know the resort is undergoing a renovation and I bet we probably had a room that had not been done yet. But they let things go for too long IMO.
Don't even get me started on the chaotic dining room. Rude cast members are generally a rarity, but not here. I consider shouting and conversing to each other in a foreign language when waiting on guests to be rude. It was the norm there.
CBR has always seemed better to me, or better yet, go to a deluxe.
We stayed here last dec & we had a pin code discount..30% I think. Thank God we had a pin code, bc I don't think its worth it. We stayed @ All Star Movies & actually saw less kids there than we did here but it was also Pop Warner wk which is a cheerleading comp. Most kids r in the all stars but POR takes the overflow & it was crazy how many girls we had there! The good: the singer in the lounge Bob, is not to be missed & make sure u get there early to get a seat bc there not many & bring the kids! He's awesome! The pool, the boat to DTD & having more than one bus stop is great but always go to the main stop in the front in the morning bc it fills up fast! The bad: they didn't grant my room request in AB & ended up in the mansions. Rms were run down, only had one plug that worked...and the ugly; the decor in the mansions is terrible! So glad they r upgrading!
