I was looking at some photos connected with another thread here on the boards and the person had taken some pictures of different characters autographs. That got me to thinking about something that happened several years ago.

My son had gotten Snow White's autograph someplace at Disney World and then a few days later got it again from a different cast member who was playing Snow White at a different location in The World. While the autographs were close, you could tell that they were written by two different people.

My question is; does Disney train characters to sign the same way and is penmanship a part of the hiring process?

I have two different chip autographs,a nd two different Dales ones, too. As well, in DL they signed it "Tigger... TTFN" and in WDW "Tigger"

There are differences, but for the most part, each character has ONE autograph standard.

That not ture on the part of Tigger over here at Disneyland. Are Tigger signs it as Tigger I got his autograph and that's how he sign my. And I thing they can do it anyway they want because. When I got my autograph from Jafar he sign his name in the Kingdom Hearts logo and some of my Snow White autograph look different. Here is pictures of the 3 characters.
On a side note over at Disneyland Beast can sign autographs. Here is the proff.

it annoys me how in dl they can sign. the incredibles sign there but they use a stamp in wdw.

Incs used to sign in WDW. I just assumed 8 inches of PVC rubber got in the way.

Belle will sign for Beast at WDW.

but yes, there are standards for every character, but i've read personal cases where some characters take it upon themselves to embellish. the point however was an autograph was supposed to remain the same today as it was 30 years ago.

i also frequent another forum where there's a cast member at a resort who was trained in assisting characters to sign. i think she said she was able to handle 400-something signatures? it was crazy.

i've read another personal case where a friend of the chipmunks kinda forget whose friend she was and started writing the other chipmunk's name (but realized it and corrected herself by turning it into an insult instead)

Yes. When you get accepted as a character, you get a book that has every single characters autograph in it...you have to master the ones that you are playing....

Yes.. there are books giving the character the autograph, and the characters personality on how to protray the character. There are restrictions on autographs, like the TTFN on Tigger, it is up to the proformer to choose if he wants to write that or not, it dosent really have anything to do with DL/WDW. With the stamp think, when Buzz's or the Increadable's Stamps break they have to be able to write the autograph without the stamp.. the stamps just move the line along faster, they try not to focus on the autograph as much as they do a personal meet and greet.

From what I understand, the characters aren't supposed to embellish any of the signatures anyways. If they are caught, they will definately get lectured on it but probably nothing too severe. The only reason I was able to get a personalized autograph from Maleficent is because my roommate was the one portraying her. As stated, the autographs are really supposed to remain consistent throughout the years.

I don't think subtle imbellishments are a problem. After all, how many of us keep to the same hohum signature day after day. Especially if we have a great experience or something. I think it makes them more real to sometimes deviate.

I also think that it is a shame that some characters use stamps and not real signatures. It is pretty disappointing when your favorite character whips out a stamp instead of personally signing your book. Would you pay big money and stand in line to get a stamped autograph of your favorite baseball player????
