Until my kids were born eight weeks ago, sadly, the only legacy I had on this planet was that old REO Speedwagon post from June 22, 1999. I still don't know what happened to it, but now is the time to start a new one with some great news:

REO Speedwagon's new CD is being released April 3! The name of the album is "Find Your Own Way Home" and an exclusive box set will be available at Walmart in the initial release. It will include the new CD, an enhanced CD with the exclusive XM broadcast of them playing the entire "Hi Infidelity" album last year, and a DVD of behind-the-scenes footage making the new CD and some unplugged versions of new and classic songs.

They will be releasing two singles to radio stations beginning on March 19th. "Smilin' In The End" to Classic Rock and Rock stations, and "I Needed To Fall" to AC and Hot AC, as well as all the rock stations. They have just started the process of making a video for "I Needed To Fall" which will debut on VH-1 soon.

Keep on rollin', people!

Granted, REO has only one member still in the band from when it was formed in 1967, but the current line-up has been together for the longest of any...17 years. The one member is Neal Doughty, the keyboard player who also came up with the name. In his engineering class at the University of Illinois, the professor put the name "REO Speedwagon" on the board to talk about the 1911 high-speed fire truck of that name, and it was at a time when the band was looking what to call itself. Neal liked the name because of the three capital letters and how long it was...he thought it would be eye-catching.

The other founding member, drummer Alan Gratzer, retired in 1988 but still joins the band on stage when they play in Los Angeles for a song or two from time to time.

Best album: R.E.O./T.W.O.
Best song: Ridin' the Storm Out, vocals by Michael Murphy.

These are from a time when they were a real Rock n Roll band.:drummer: :rocker:

Mark, I actually was searching for your post a few weeks ago so I could resurrect it - I had just gotten an e-mail from Kevin & thought it was time - but I could not find it. :(

Let's hope the album will "Keep on Rollin' - Roll with the Changes!" :mickey:

REO Speedwagon will be singing the National Anthem in St. Louis on opening day of baseball season this Sunday.
The band has a soft spot for the city in their hearts due to KSHE-95 being one of the first radio stations to give the band plenty of air time. The bands first concert as a headliner was also in St. Louis.
They are also friends with Tony "I am not a drunk" LaRussa.:number1:

Hey, I was just coming to spead that good news. They're the only game on tonight, so they should be on tv on ESPN2. They are doing the same Monday in Kansas City.

I can't wait to get the boxed set on Tuesday!!!

Yep, they just sang the national anthem in KC as the B-2 Bomber flew over.

--- they just had Kevin Cronin in the broadcast booth chatting for a while, and they played a bit of the new single.

BTW - at the moment the Royals are ahead 2-1

--- they also sang Take Me Out To The Ball Game.

BTW - at this moment the Royals are ahead 6-1...... HOLY COW!!!!!!

Coming back this past Sunday from a trip, i heard a program on XM satellite radio of an unplugged REO concert. They gave some explanations for some of the song origins and performed many of them accoustically. It was an entertaining show. Did anyone else catch it?

Yep! In fact, you get that on DVD in the Wal-Mart boxed set. It's called "REO Speedwagon - XM Artist Confidential." Unfortnately, keyboardist Neal Doughty was not able to make that session.

REO has hit the charts for the first time in 18 years. Two of their three releases from their new album made the Top 40 on the Billboard AC charts. I saw them twice this summer and they were better than ever. There is no stopping this band!

"Hey, it's been a while, but I'm back." (That's the thread talking.) Did anyone pick up REO's Christmas album last year? It's really good. I didn't know what to expect, but I'm very pleased at how it came out. They are re-releasing it this year with three more songs that they just recorded...one of them an original.

This band has been playing live shows each and every year since it was formed in 1967. Yep, every single year. They have never taken a break from touring. That is pretty amazing if you ask me!

Checking out the ol' Speedwagon this Saturday at the Durham Fair. Finally, I'll be seeing a single-headliner show, so they'll play a longer set and I'll hear some songs I haven't in a long time. They also just re-released their Christmas album with three bonus songs, including an orginal, and I have to say it's very good.

REO Speedwagon will be performing on George Lopez tonight! I believe it's REO's very first late-night performance. (I won't get into how I feel about their 44-year snub.)

This is the 30th anniversary of the success of Hi Infidelity, so I'm going to assume they'll play a song from that album. I'll go with "Take It On The Run." Any other guesses? Let's see who gets it right!

Hey, where are my REO buddies? I'm getting tired of talking to myself! Well for the record, they started off with "Take It On The Run," so I thought I was right...but they did a medley of their hits. It was pretty cool. Then there is a exclusive online performance of "Roll With The Changes" on lopeztonight.com

I still say Mike Murphy's version of Ridin' the Storm Out is much better than Cronin's. Cronin is lead singer on their best album, R.E.O./T.W.O. though. But these are probably before your time.;)

I agree with you 100%. In fact, I enjoy the three Murphy albums more than any Cronin album. "Lost In A Dream" is my favorite REO album of all time.

Sorry I don't have any REO chatter, but seeing your post at the top of this thread made me realize that Sam and Amelia must be so grown up by now, Mark! How are they doing?

Sorry to go :offtopic:!

Oh, and Beth, Sam and Amelia are doing great, thank you! They are in the first grade and are very smart.

Sadly, though, we had to put our middle dog Sophie to sleep last week. She developed lung cancer that spread to her brain. It all happened in a matter if three weeks. :( Please see my homepage.

Has anyone seen REO recently, or plan on seeing them this year? They have been setting dates for 2014 since last summer. This band is endless.

BTW, Sam and Amelia just had their seventh birthday this past week. Amazing. AMAZING!!!

Have tickets for REO on Valentine's Day in Cherokee, NC. A bit of a drive for us but they happen to be playing at a casino we frequent often ;) I have two extras if anyone wants to join us! (But not sure there are any rooms left!)

Btw I JUST came searching for this thread and there it was right on the TOP!

That's awesome Janet...on both accounts.

I think that's a show they are headlining alone (as opposed to being with Styx), so they might play some obscure or even new songs.

I'm psyched, it's a small venue so we can be up close and personal ;)

How was the show, Janet? They just played in front of 58,000 people at Reliant Stadium in Texas. They play all kinds of venues! I'm seeing them with Chicago at an amphitheater this summer in Hartford.
