I have heard different reasons why Song of the South won't be released in the U.S., primarily because of racism, but is there any chance it will in the next few years? Are there any ongoing rumors? I know there was a long wait for Black Cauldron and many said it wouldn't be released, but it was. But anyways, I saw it a long time ago as a kid and would love to see it again.

I believe that this was recently adressed in another post in this topic. From what I remember the answer was it will not be released in the US. However it was released in the UK and you should be able to get a copy on Ebay without to much intestment on your part.

For further info, you might want to try searching for "Song of the South" unless dpamac (Gary) posts to this thread first.
Good luck.

Isn't the UK stuff in Pal format? How would I have it reformatted for NTSC?

SotS has been discussed many times. It most probably will NOT be released here in the US. If you purchase it from an overseas source, you would have to get it transferred from PAL.

What everyone said is pretty much true. Almost from the day the film was released, SotS has been protested for various reasons and I've read quotes from top Disney officials saying that it will never be released again in the U.S. But, as Crow said, they said that about Fantasia and Snow White.

However, SotS is protested for some sensetive reasons. And, while you may not find it offensive, some people truly think it trivializes a very integral and dark portion of American history. Whether that is true or not, I cannot say because I haven't had the chance to see the film in my adult life to make that decision.

If they do release it, it won't be for some time. I think most of us would prefer they spend their money restoring other films, such as Pollyana, 20,000 Leagues or some of the animated features. (I want the shorts!!!!)

Check E-Bay for PAL versions of the film. Conversions to NTSC usually run between $30 and $40.

Thanks for the info. I'll check for it on ebay and have it trasferred. It seems no matter what there is always people that get offended over something and ruin it for everybody else.

I have a copy of SOTS that I purchased from one of the movie sales companies in the UK called Blackstar at www.blackstar.co.uk (http://www.blackstar.co.uk)

Get your copy here for sure for around $19. If you try to get it on eBay, most people act like the darn thing doesn't even exist and will charge you a arm and a leg to get it. It is in PAL format so it will need to be transfered, but I hear that if you look around, it can be done for around $20. I still need to get mine done, but as of now, I have a brand new, off the shelf copy of SOTS! http://www.intercot.com/boards/smile.gif

I bought my copy of SoTS from somebody who had some ad that I stumbled upon using a search eniine/ He had already converted it from PAL to VHS (or whatever it is supposed to be called here) for only $12.00. I guess it's all in where you look for things. It playes great, there are no problems wiht it at all.
