Hello! We will be arriving at WDW May 6th (Sunday) about 8-9am. We have no idea where to start!! We have a character dinner that night for my daughter but nothing for the day. Originally thought we would be there much later but thanks to all those in the Jacksonville area that replied to my last question we now realize we will be there early enough to really enjoy the day. We thought maybe MK or Downtown Disney for shopping. Any thouhgts? This is our first trip...can you tell :)

Thank you for the help!!

Everybody has their own preferences, of course, but we usually spend the first day, after getting settled in, at Downtown Disney. We usually have dinner there, and simply wander around, taking in the atmosphere, people watching, and making the obligatory pilgrimage to the World of Disney store to scout out the latest batch of souvenirs and cool clothing. http://www.intercot.com/boards/smile.gif

I love to go to DD, but for us it is better on the last day. This way you don't have packages to worry about. Have you thought about going to a water park for the day?? Disney even has 2 mini-golf courses you could try.

I would say spend the day getting to know you resort, maybe do some shopping, and ride the monorail !

I always do DD. First of all, by the time you check in and unpack, you'll probably only have about half a day. You can enjoy your hotel for one thing. Go swimming. Take a nap. Then, head to DD for shopping and dinner. I don't do much shopping in the parks, so I buy all my souvenirs at DD on the first day. Then a nice dinner at any of the restaurants there, or Disney Quest. It's just a great way to start off the trip. Enjoy!

I would definetly check in, relax, explore, and go to Disney Quest that evening. I wasn't sure about Disney Quest until I went. My best friend and took a 4 day trip to disney right after college graduation and right before we got married. She kept telling me about it, and I thought I wouldn't enjoy it...but I LOVED IT! I rode the virtual water rafting ride 4 times in a row! And we both have the most memorable pictures made from there...you sit down and take your picture, and then using a computer make yourself look however you want! I have green punk hair with an eyebrow ring as well as a LLLOOOONNGGGG chin. Your daughter will love making her picture!

Well, I will be going to Disney in November, and for our first day we will be going to the Hoop De Doo Revue at Fort Wilderness. I have already made reservations and this will be a great way to relax, eat great food, and drink unlimited beer! http://www.intercot.com/boards/wink.gif I hear the show is fantastic as well!!

You didn't say what type of park passes you have. If you have the length of stay passes, I would definitely pre-check in if your room isn't ready and head to your favorite park! The anticipation KILLS me when we first drive onto Disney property, and once the bags are out of the car, we're off to the Magic Kingdom, even if it is only for a few hours!

I would agree that it very much depends on the type of tickets or passes you have. We have APs, so the first day (arriving about noon) will be spent in Epcot!

My dbf's first day will be spent in the MK as he's never been before and we figure that's the best way to make him realize he's actually in Disney World!!

yes it partly depends on what ticket you have. I usually go my fav park if time permits, like Epcot & wander the countries & eat. DD is usually a nightime thing inc Pleasure Island.
It depends on age of child & what they let you do also.
For the first trip a child may want to go to MK right away, but if you are plannning to do Epcot , MGM you may want to do those first soas not to bore the kid after seein all the characters etc.

Thanks everyone!! I haven't decided for sure but here is what we are thinking....leave our bags at hotel, head to Mk, then back to GF to check-in and unpack. Off to Chef Mickey's for a 5:30 ps, then...okay, what now? No fireworks that night so I thought MAYBE try to get into Fantasmic at 9:00. Any thoughts on whether this is a good idea or no? Help..again:) Thank you so much!! I really need these tips. If you don't think Fantasmic is a good idea that night...what about a stroll over to DD that evening after dinner? Oh, by the way, we have unlimited park hopper passes.
