Hi
I was at the Poly 10/11- 10/15 at the Hawaii concierge building. The room was nice, clean and a good size. It was on the 1st floor with a refridgerator with a connecting door to my sisters room, all requests were met !! The Poly will send you a pamphlet in the mail to fill out for Priority seating for meals and any requests you have.Everyone at the concierge office was so nice. The building is in the best location, minute walk to beach and pool and 2 minute walk to restaurants, monorail and boat rentals. I wasn't sure about doing the concierge but I think it was worth it. The location of the building was perfect, and we just went upstairs every morning to have breakfast, so easy. There were danish, bagels, english muffins, fruit salad, cereals, oatmeal, muffins, fruit and drinks. From 12:00 - 5:00 there were only cookies ( M&M & Chocolate chip etc) and fruit and drinks ( I thought there would be cold cuts or sandwiches, something besides cookies and fruit but there wasn't). At 5:00 there was a cold raw vegetable salad, pasta salad, chicken wings and PB&J sandwiches plus drinks on one night. Another night there was the cold vegetable salad again, nachos with cheese, chili and ham and cheese sandwiches. Every night there are desserts and drinks. There are trays if you want to take things back to your room. There was plenty of Bottled water and cans of soda, also lemonade, juice, coffee, tea, hot chocolate and after dinner drinks at dessert time. I'm spoiled now, can't imagine staying anywhere else. Hopefully I will have time to do a trip report this weekend. FARMGIRL - Amy

OK, I just called Disney and upgraded to the conceirge/lagoon view. Call me crazy!

Question: having a non-smoking room is a big issue with us (our oldest has asthma). I noticed that the first two floors are non-smoking and the 3rd floor is smoking. When you were on the first floor, did you notice any sign of cigarettes?

Also, what floor is the lounge on - 1st or 2nd? Or is there one for each floor? And is smoking allowed in the lounge?

And one last question - can one see the fireworks and castle if on the 1st or 2nd floor?

OK, I have one FINAL question (probably for PolyGirl). In your opinion, which would be better...3rd floor lagoon view at the Tahiti *or* 1st floor at the conceirge building?

OK, thanks!

Smoking is prohibited on every floor but the third. The third floor is smoking optional.

The concierge lounge is on the second floor. No smoking is allowed. There is a sitting area on every level. But, the main lounge houses the food, TV etc.
can one see the fireworks and castle if on the 1st or 2nd floor?

If you have a lagoon view, Yes. You can also view them from the 2nd floor lounge area.

I just made this decision myself. I'm staying on the first floor in Hawaii. I figure with the budget cuts and shorter Park hours, we will really utilize the lounge. The building is smaller, therefore less traffic.

FARMGIRL,
Thanks for the review. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay.

Was this your first time using the concierge service? They usually offer more items than what you listed. I wonder if they are cutting back with less guests. Did the building seem busy?

Again, Thank you. http://www.intercot.com/boards/smile.gif

If you are able to get an upgrade to the concierge level, you should receive a phone call and/or an e-mail from the concierge staff. This will include a personal planning itinerary.

Now; this is where it might get tricky. Since you originally booked your trip through a travel agent, CRO might not have that personal information. If you do not hear from them, drop me a line and I can give you the phone number for the concierge desk.

I'm afraid they will see your mistake and just put you on a non-smoking level. This would include the second floor. It is a great convenience to be on the same floor as the main lounge. However, the second floor rooms in the Hawaii building do not have
balconies. If you want an outside sitting area you will have to request the first floor.

I would make reference as soon as you know you received the upgrade. You're going over a busy time frame. Changing at the front
desk might not be time enough. Remember, these are not guaranteed. The staff will do their best to accommodate you.

Let them know you have small children and want the first floor and non-smoking.

Wow - this is a great thread...FarmGirl - you need to report back and answer our follow-up questions!

And yes, I will also request 1st floor and thanks for the info that the lounge is on the 2nd floor. I'm already down for a lagoon view.

I'll be there before you know it and I'll also write back with my thoughts on the service.

Hi Becky and everyone
I did not see any signs of smoking on the 1st floor, I have a very good nose for smells and I did not smell any cigarette smell anywhere on the 1st floor or concierge room. I don't know if the reason for not having as much food as I thought there would be is because it is slower during the time I was there or something else. I did not know exactly what was supposed to be offered, so I didn't know if it was less food than usual or not. The hotel did not seem super busy, there was never really a crowd waiting at the monorail station at Poly, the pool was busy but plenty of room for kids to play in the pool. The most people I saw in the concierge room at once was probably 15, at breakfast 7:00 - 7:30 and that inlcuded 3 or 4 of us. Saturday night when we were leaving the concierge room at 8:45 before the fireworks ( son just couldn't stay up) there were only 7 other people in there. This was my 1st time at the Poly, I don't know what the crowds are usually like but it seemed a little quiet. Everything was great!

It sounds wonderful! I thought I had read somewhere about sandwiches at the noon serving time. Do they have a theme at nite?

Your post has me sooooooo excited. 43 more days and we are there at the Poly concierge. We struggled with whether we should spend the extra money. Thanks for your insight. Can't wait!!!!!!

Hi
They sort of have a theme for the evening 5:00 food time. One day I asked what the food would be that night and one of the concierge workers told me a mexican/southwest theme with the nachos and chili. I didn't end up going to the concierge that night, so I don't know what else they had, I don't know if the desserts are themed as well. I think if there are 3 or more people in the room, concierge is worth doing, if there are just 2 of you, you need to think about how often you will be at the hotel to take advantage of the food and drinks. Also keep in mind the building location is excellent, so you can figure that into the extra cost. They may offer more food at the 12:00 - 5:00 time during busier times of the year, I'm not sure. The pool is great especially if you have young children. Everyone was very helpful. Have fun !!
