My cousin lives in Clermont, about 20 miles from Orlando, and she has complained every day this week about the love bugs. She won't even let her child go outside in the evenings.

The love bugs are back. I jokingly told someone at work that they must carry little pocket calendars. (Use your imagination) On August 31 there were no signs of them. On September 1, I got one on my windshield.
For those of you who absolutely cannot stand lovebugs, they are only out in force in May and September. That's it. They're annoying little things that fly linked together. They have on goal in life, hence the name lovebugs. They don't bite, sting, buzz, etc but they do leave a heck of a mess on your car and if left alone, it will eat your paint.

I did not realize it was may and sept- I was there in May, and there were actually heaps of them all along the sidewalks at AS Sports!

They are very funny though- they add something to the trip, I think! Many memories of trying the evade the "sex bugs", as me and my cousins called them.

I can confirm with the other posters, we saw a few of them for the first time today (in our area of FL). So far (IMHO) they do not seem as bad and influx as the May one was. But who knows? Just like mosquitos the eggs/larva need water, and since we recently got a heavy rain it could get worse.

Ah the love bugs don't bother me -- they're a great sign that the lines are down in WDW. http://www.intercot.com/boards/supergrin.gif

I heard last year's September fling was one of the worst yet. I know this year I probably won't even notice them because I didn't think it was bad last year!

I'm used to having hordes of mosquitos anyway, so hordes of non-vampire bugs is perfectly fine to me! http://www.intercot.com/boards/wink.gif

Love bug tip: don't wear white.

Love bugs looove the color white.
I dunno why, but that what Florida
people always tell me and they do
seem more numerous when I rent a white
car.

I was introduced to the Love Bug on a trip to Mississippi last Sept. We just tried to keep them out of the house.

A Love Bug lesson for anyone that hasn't met them before..

I just realized that must have been what we saw in May when my 5 year old observantly pointed out that the bugs were playing "Cat-Dog."

Love -bugs are, for those who asked, little black flying creatures, probably the size of ants, but with wings, that mindlessly fly around, usually attatched to another, as is ritual, hurting noone. Totally harmless, just annoying in quantity.

I am in WDW for a week every Sept, and have seen the minor swarms. I do not see the fuss over them, though, as they do not make a sound, sting, bite, you just have to flick them away. HATE is little strong, don't you think?

LOL, I got a visual of this one. I drive a Disney Cruise Line bus. The dimensions on this bus are as follows: 45 feet long, 8 1/2 feet wide and almost 12 feet high. Do you have any idea how many lovebugs you can get on the front of one of these things???????? By the time we get back in the evening, the front of the bus is black. Thank goodness they're only here 2 months out of the year.

You should see the front of my 12'8" high, 8'6" wide fifth-wheel trailer after driving through swarms of these delightful little creatures at 65 mph ! http://www.intercot.com/boards/reallymad.gif

Takes me a good two hours with a stiff brush and a pressure washer to remove them.

Ew. http://www.intercot.com/boards/dead.gif

For those of you interested, love bugs are basically fireflies without the fire. http://www.intercot.com/boards/smile.gif No lights, stingers, extra large jaws, smells, sounds, poisons, or any harmful things on them whatsoever. (Their blood is acidic which peels the paint off of cars, but that's it. http://www.intercot.com/boards/supergrin.gif)
