Alrighty let's see if this makes sense...

I usually handle all reservations for our group as far as FP and ADRs. We have a group of 8 (three different rooms) arriving for different times in Sept. My hubby and I arrive first for some alone time, then my parents arrive for some time with them, then my brother and his family arrive for time together, we leave, then parents leave etc. It means everyone gets group time and alone time (except my poor parents lol.)

So...trouble is we have reservations but may or may not keep the trip (we would know around April 1st-it's based on if we get a free cruise from rccl instead.)

So, if I make ADRs on March 15th which is our 180 days and then we end up not going can I call and have them adjusted/transferred to the other members of our party? Should I make the ADRs in my mom's log in instead?

ADRs are not tied to any resort stay whatsoever. Nor are they tied to any tickets. They aren't even really tied to people except the name of the person who made them. If you make them and then want to transfer them to others in your party, that can be done easily via MDE. Just change the names of the people.

BUT, you don't even need to to that. Just have whoever is going, check in at the podium and give your last name and ADR time. That's all the restaurant will care about. No one is going to ask for proof or scan you MB. No on cares.

The only real reason for having other people's names on the ADR is so that the ADR will appear on their MDE account. Most of the time, I make ADRs and never actually designate who the other members of the party will be.

Do not call Disney Dining to make changes, cancel is their go to mode and you may not be able to rebook for the smaller group.
When you make the ADRs just list all the attendees with their MDE accounts. Then you can go back and just cancel out the people who will no longer be going.
If, and this is a very small if, for some reason the MDE system won't let you do what you need, give the IT people from MDE a call and they can help you out.

I would make the group reservations under your mom's name. It will be easy to take your name off of the ADRs that way.

Right but since we arrive a few days sooner I would think we have access to the ADR system sooner. Not trying to cheat the system, just don't know yet if we can go...

My DD really wanted to eat at Cinderella's Table during our family trip in October. I found a breakfast opening for 2 people and booked it right away under my name. (I didn't want to risk losing it by wasting the time to get to her account.) I put DD as the second person. Later on, we tried to switch the reservation to her and her new DH to celebrate their honeymoon. I was told that the only way to do that would be to cancel our reservation and then rebook it under her name. We didn't want to risk losing it, so we left it under my name. The cast member said I should just show up to the ADR and explain the situation at the podium. I didn't even have to do that. They got in without any problems. Just be aware that if you want to switch the names, you will have to cancel it and then rebook it.
