Good morning [emoji4]

We will be at Hollywood Studios on June 30 but were not able to get fastpasses for any Toy Story Land rides (didn't really think we'd be able to on opening day even trying 60 days out, but got them for a few days later [emoji16]). My question is this...as many times as we've been to WDW, we've never been for an opening of any type and I was wondering what to expect? What happens the day, the hour, the minute a new park area opens? Any and all tips and suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Bummer. I thought someone would have been to an opening that could provide tips.

I was at a soft opening for Pandora. Crowds were crazy and lines filled up quickly. At least for us, everyone remained civil. However, I've heard of people rushing (aka running) to get in line or explore. I likened it to Holiday crowds. In this case it may be more like July 4th crowds since it's mid summer.

Yea, I was wondering if it was like July 4th crowds, etc. Like I said, we don't have any fastpasses so I'm wondering if we even should be in that area for opening. Does anything special happen (gifts given, special event stuff going on etc?)

There were no special events or gift during our experience. If nothing is announced, I kind of doubt they'll plan anything spontaneous. I suspect they'll be busy working through the kinks of opening an entirely new section of the park.

My DD was at AK the day Pandora opened. They arrived very early, in fact, if my memory serves me correctly they arrived over an hour before the park was scheduled to open. When they arrived they found the gates open allowing people in, and they were reportedly open for a few hours before they arrived. They could not even get into Pandora that day. There was a 4 hour wait to just get into that section of the park ... so, I imagine, HS will be a virtual mad-house since there has been nothing new to that park for many years .... and ..... I will be part of that magical day ... yep ... I will be in that line well before daylight .... YAY !!!

It'll be interesting to see. I'm not sure I see the crowds being as crazy for TSL and they were for Pandora - but it's something new and interesting at a park that's been pretty thin for awhile now.

Never been to an new attraction opening at Disney, but I have been to one at Six Flags. From that experience I would expect 2 things. 1.) Most people in the park are going to be trying to get on the new rides 2.) The rides are going to experience frequent delays and slow load times as the ride operators go through the learning curve to get to where they can load and unload guest efficiently.

Pandora was crazy the first few days. We got there the 2nd day it opened and it was a long wait, just to get in that section. The thing to remember though, is that the weekend was Memorial Weekend. But Toy story is the weekend before 4th Of July. I would imagine as how crazy Pandora was, Toy Story may be just as bad.

Seeing as the fastpasses we did get are a few days after opening, we may not worry about being there for the exact opening. Might just walk by to see the crowd.

I suspect if you want to get into Toy Story Land on opening day your best bet is going to be to get there an hour before opening.

If it reaches capacity they will stop people from entering like they did with Pandora. There was a wait just to get into Pandora when it opened

I'm thinking an hour before the scheduled opening is not going to be enough ...
