2 Value Rooms or One Moderate

We are going down over New Years this year, and the cost difference between two All Star rooms and a room at Port Orleans is only about $100.

Our boys are 18 and 14 year old twins, so having anyone sleep in the fold out bed at Port Orleans will be squishy. (It'll probably end up being me...) They LOVE Port Orleans, beignets, and the boat ride to Disney Springs.

BUT, having the extra space at the All Star would be really nice... two bathrooms specifically.

What would you do?

Hmmm...3 teenage boys? This is a no-brainer. Bag the beignets, add the bathroom! 5 people & 1 bathroom will take forever​ in the mornings, plus, you'll have much more room to "spread out".

As much as I love Port Orleans - even to the point where my 18 year old daughter managed a trundle bed (but she's pretty tiny!) With three (I'm assuming BIG?) teenage boys I'd do the two rooms. They'll probably really like the theming as well. And you can take an evening or morning to go over the POFQ, get the beignets, and take the boat to Disney Springs.

My son; 14, 5.5, 120 pounds slept just fine on the fold down bed at the poly in Feb. My boys would prefer not have to share a bed so he chose to sleep on the fold down. He fit just fine and had no complaints.

However the studio at the poly, with its two bathroom set up, was great for getting ready! Even with just the 4 of us that extra bathroom helped so much!

If you all want to be together, try a family suite or rent a DVC one bedroom, as mentioned above. We are also getting at the point where our kiddos - 11 year old girl and 10 year old boy - are getting too old to share a bed and neither like the pull out beds or murphy beds, so it's either get two rooms or bring an air mattress, which doesn't work in small value rooms. Art of Animation has great food - and you can always visit Port Orleans for a beignet fix when you need one!

Check out AoA ... the suites are very nice. They're a bit pricier than the other values, but I think it's well worth it ... due to our growing crowd we have been staying there our last few trips. Although we love the Riverside Resorts and call them our favorite places to stay, I'd say AOA will fit ya much better.

I would go with two rooms at a value. We have done this in the past and the extra room and bathroom are great to have. Make sure you ask for connecting rooms.

Get the 2 rooms. More space, more beds, and another bathroom.

I would opt for the two rooms. It gives you space when you need "me" time.

If you go with 2 rooms, I'd make a point of visiting POFQ for a meal.

That's not a terrible idea but if you budget is for either one moderate room or two values it might end up costing more than that. Plus, if you have two value rooms that is a total of four beds instead of three. That way, everyone gets their own bed. Maybe you could score two of the new rooms at POP.

We have four kids now and I would choose the two rooms over the AoA suite. I personally did not think it was worth the extra $. One of the beds is a pull-out sofa and not very comfortable for an older child. If you are going to stay in a value anyway you might as well have real beds to sleep in at night. The pool is really nice but I think the perks of the pool are mostly for parents of younger kids. I liked the zero entry pool when we had little ones that could not swim. If your boys can swim then any pool would be fine for them. The other thing I liked about AoA is that the entry to the rooms is inside a building like a hotel, rather than a motel. It was a lot quieter than most values. Other than that it wasn't any better than your typical value resort.


Renting DVC clubs is another good suggestion. However it would cost more than two value rooms. Most one bedrooms can only fit 4. I think that a few can fit 5. In the one bedrooms there is a King Bed, and a double sleeper sofa. Some have an additional sleeper chair.

The Wilderness Cabins can sleep 6 and run about the same price as AoA suites. However, it can be more troublesome to get around the resort. There is also only one bathroom, but for us that isn't such a big deal. Unless your kids spend an hour each in the bathroom in the morning you can make do.

I do agree that you would be pushing the limits in one moderate room. We found it was a tight fit with five of us and our kids were little (8,4,1) at the time. We made it work but it was pretty tight. If you spend a lot of time outside the room and only need a place to crash at night you would probably be fine.

I have debated that for a few years. We began doing 2 value rooms for a few years and now my family prefers extra beds to the glamour of moderates. Make sure to request "connecting" rooms.
We leave the inside connecting door open for convenience of 2 restrooms and family communication.

I have values but in your situation, that seems like the best bet. Banish the boys to one room.

CPS? Really? Lol!

I agree with the majority here that the two value rooms would be your best option. However, I still believe that the Murphy beds at Riverside are fine for average sized teens. My boys would both fit comfortably on the beds. At 5.5 and weighing 120 (130 for my older teen) they both fit perfectly fine on the murphy bed at the poly just a few months ago.

Yeah, CPS :) Those little skinny slivers? That's for inmates, or people who take flash photography on dark rides.

Are your sure your kids fit? You aren't duct taping them in each night or anything? That wouldn't count.

But, yeah, I think the values for this situation are the best fit, and it kills me to say that. And I hate the values that i've tried/seen.

Someone could sleep in the tub :)
