Just read that Roger Moore passed away today at age 89. I actually very surprised that after 50 years of the franchise that he's the first to pass away.

Now for the fun part, rate your James Bonds.

Sean Connery
Daniel Craig
Timothy Dalton
Pierce Brosnan
Roger Moore
George Lazenby

Connery for me will always be Bond, and the three movies From Russia With Love, Thunderball and Goldfinger epitomize the classic Bond.

Daniel Craig, I just love the reboot of the franchise with Craig and him taking it to another physical level that we haven't really seen before.

Dalton/Brosnan are about tied for me. Brosnan was supposed to be Bond until NBC pulled him back for Remington Steele, and Dalton took over, only to get bounced once a decade of lawsuits stalled the franchise. Dalton brought that first dark edge to Bond, but he was handcuffed by generic scripts. Brosnan brought back the swagger and bit more of the humor, but by the end was hurt by poor scripts.

Moore was a victim of the campy '70's and '80's and his Bond pales in comparison to the others. For Your Eyes Only was probably his best turn at the role and shows what he could have been.

Lazenby actually imo, had the best story with On Her Majesty's Secret Service, one of my favorite Bond books, but he simply gets lost in the one and done shuffle.

Would have been nicer to have seen Moore play Bond at a younger age, but that was when he was tied into doing The Saint.

I disagree with your Bond ranking, but I prefer Bond with a dry wit than the physical style Bond. I am not a big fan of Daniel Craig as Bond. Actually my favorite Bond film is The Spy Who Loved Me. My apologies to Honor Blackman, but Barbara Bach is my favorite Bond girl.

Select AMC theaters are showing a 007 double feature in honor of Roger Moore with proceeds going to UNICEF, for which Moore was a good will ambassador. They are showing For Your Eyes Only and The Spy Who Loved Me tonight at 6:00 PM or Sunday at 2:00 PM.

My Bond List:
1. Connery
2. Moore
3. Brosnan
4. Craig
5. Dalton
6. Lazenby

My problem with Moore as Bond is that he was a victim of:

1. Being too old, especially at the end, none of his stunts were believable
2. Campy and outlandish scripts (Moonraker) and terrible one-liners
3. Gadgets. Moore's Bond was all about the gadgets and little about the man.

I liked Barbara Bach, but of Moore's Bond women, I'll go with Jayne Seymour, her role as Solataire was probably my first Bond girl crush.

I thought of this thread today as I was standing in grocery check out line. There was a commemorative Life magazine for Roger Moore and the whole Bond franchise. Picked it up to consider buying it, until I saw that they want $14 for it! I got to see a Bond double feature for that price and a portion of that money went to charity! I think I got the better deal!
