Two questions:

1.) Chef Mickey's - Do you rather breakfast or dinner?

2.) Which do you prefer Ohana or Kona Café breakfast? (From a food perspective -- Ignoring the fact that Ohana has character breakfast :mickey:)

I like Ohana AND Kona Cafe for breakfast. The food at both places is good, but if you don't care about characters, or prefer a quieter atmosphere, go with Kona Cafe.

I have only eaten at Chef Mickey's once for breakfast ten years ago, so I can't really comment on that. It was good, but I probably wouldn't do it again.

1. Chef Mickey's for breakfast. I was totally unimpressed with the dinner. The breakfast was at least edible.

2. Hard decision. I love both places. I would say, character aspect aside, Kona Cafe has great food and service, and I do like that you order ala carte, as opposed to sharing family style. That being said, I love Ohana brunch...its so fun, and the food is good. I just think Kona edges it out solely on food.

Chef Mickeys we like breakfast. Ohana we would do either as we enjoyed both. We have not made it to Kona yet so no comment there

So these are my random thoughts on the places you mentioned and I don't think you will find them helpful at all to your unique situation, but here you go anyway....

So, in my family we are kind of "over" character meals, although, a family style all you can eat character meal definitely trumps a buffet line with character meal - I'm to the point in my Disney experience that I'd rather not have to be up and down to get my food and standing in line while worrying "Oh wait, did we get our picture with Pooh?" or "Stay put because we don't want to miss Mickey." So I'd choose 'Ohana over Chef Mickey for that very reason, but again, I've never done 'Ohana Character Breakfast before.

off topic: There are two buffet non-character breakfasts I have been to that are fantastic and they are Boma and Trails End.

So, knowing that we have never done 'Ohana breakfast (it really just seems like there is nothing special or different about the food offerings there. To me it seems like I can get the exact same meal from a quick serve - that big breakfast platter thing...) I have found the Kona Cafe to be a great place for a quiet breakfast and a great value. They have an item there called the Big Kahuna. Crazy amount of breakfast foods for something like 12.99

Also, if you are a fan of the Tonga Toast, skip Kona Cafe altogether and go downstairs to Captain Cooks (Poly quick serve) and get it there for less.

Have a super trip!

This is what I'm afraid of. I have dinner reservations on our arrival day (not visiting parks that day) but thinking of switching to breakfast another day may be better. We are not on the Dining Plan and paying dinner prices for mediocre food will be disappointing.

We don't necessarily NEED the characters at Ohana. Thanks !!

Thanks for all your thoughts. It actually is helpful. I'm not a fan of the buffets either. This gives me lots to think about.

We love Kona's. Its actually one of our favorite places for a quiet and relaxed, easy meal on property.

Another thing to note if you have a Disney Visa. Go to the Disney Visa perks page and print off their discounts. You can save 10% on a number of resort restaurants when you pay with your Disney Visa.

On our most recent trip we saved at Trails End, Whispering Canyon Cafe and we would have also saved at The Wave but we forgot. I think that Kona is on the list as well...

Chef Mickey's for dinner. I know it's a character breakfast, but I can't justify spending well over $100 for my family to eat a couple waffles, pieces of bacon and a drink. Same for O'Hana's but I can't compare with Kona as we've never eaten there.

The only one we've eaten at for breakfast is Kona. I can tell you this is still our favorite breakfast food wise. The big Kahuna is outstanding

I have at all of those mentioned so here is my take - Chef Mickey is crazy loud no matter when and honestly the dinner is just meh. I would choose the bfast at Chef Mickey if I would have to choose. That being said, I think there are better food options where one can meet Mickey - Living with the Land and Tusker House.

As for Kona or 'Ohana, I like them both. As for the food options - Kona is far superior but as for food + characters - 'Ohana is definitely bone of the better options.

We generally don't go to Chef Mickey's anymore unless the kids demand it because I feel like it it way too expensive for the meal quality. If I did go, it would be breakfast.

Ohana versus Kona is hard. I enjoy both. It think it depends on what you are looking for. Family style at Ohana is always good but you are limited to what it is served. The character interaction is great. Kona has some wonderful choices of food and is so much quieter and calmer. If it was more about the food I'd probably do Kona. If it is about the experience I'd do Ohana.

I've only eaten breakfast at Chef Mickey's many years ago and it was not a great experience so that's all I'll say about that!

I much prefer the Kona Cafe for breakfast--delicious food and good service. I know a lot of people like Ohana's breakfast, but the one time I tried it the service was terrible.

Chef Mickey .... both buffets are good but crazily, insanely, overly chaotic !!
Ohana's breakfast is a favorite of ours, third in line to #1 Boma / # 2 1900 Park Fare
