What are the best things to do outside Aulani and off the beaten path on Oahu? The touristy books say: Pearl Harbor, Chinatown in Honolulu, Waikiki, Diamond Head, the North Shore, the Polynesian Cultural Center, the Dole Plantation, swimming with miscellaneous sea creatures, dinner/sightseeing cruises and of course the Paradise Cove Luau. Certainly that's probably plenty for a week if you still want to get some time at the beach or by the pool. What are some lesser known but really interesting things that you won't find in the books that you either stumbled upon or someone else looped you in on that are really worth the trip?

When we've gone to Oahu, we've typically stayed close to our resort and relaxed. A couple of times we've stayed right in Waikiki and spent most of our time there. On our last trip, we stayed at Aulani and only left he resort on one day to go to Pearl Harbor and visit the USS Missouri. By the way, there is also a submarine at Pearl Harbor which you can explore as well as an aviation museum on the island near to the Missouri.
