On December 12, 2015; Disney’s Animal Kingdom quietly renamed most of its snack and beverage kiosks.

Animal Kingdom Cast have reported the name changes as follows:

Beastly Kiosk is now Eight Spoon Café
Bradley Falls is now Caravan Road
Discovery Island Allergy Kiosk is now Terra Treats
Discovery Island Popcorn is now Feeding Ground
Gardens Kiosk is now Smiling Crocodile
Harambe Popcorn Cart is now Mahindi
Maharajah Pretzel is now Chakranadi
Upcountry is now Warung Outpost

An official reason for the name changes has yet to be announced, although Cast are reporting it is part of the park wide “re-imagining” project that started with the new Festival of the Lion King theater and will be capestoned with the new AVATAR land.

Surprisingly, these all make sense for theme purposes:

Mahindi is Swahili for corn.
Chakranadi is a river in India, and (supposedly) the river on which Kali River Rapids takes place, AND the name of the sitar and tabla duo that plays in the Asia region of the park.
Warung is a small business in the Indonesian areas.

Not that they needed to make these changes, but....

Not that they needed to make these changes, but.... Right, part of the ongoing park-wide project is to tie small details back into the various themes and existing stories. Discovery Island (and other areas) has transformed aesthetically from a bright pallet to an earthy pallet. Part of that transformation has also been to replace somewhat generic names for the food and beverage locations to theme or story specific names.

We all keeping going back to Disney for different reasons, personally; a large part of the Disney experience for me has always been these little details. I find these changes interesting and appreciate that this level of thought and storytelling is still active.

Renaming popcorn carts:confused: Someone has much too much free time on their hands. These are actually moderately large, free standing kiosks.... think less cart-ish and more like Min & Bills Dockside Diner. The structures themselves are somewhat ornate and were already themed to the surrounding area.

Here are the promotional photos released for Terra Treats, Mahindi, Eight Spoon Cafe, Smiling Crocodile, & Feeding Ground as part of the name change announcement: 37963797379837993800

I always like these little pieces of information that reinforce the Disney "Illusion." Nothing is by happenstance!
