INTERCOT Runs For ThyCa at Disney World’s 2016 Marathon Weekend!

Monrovia, MD, April 28, 2015 -- In 2013, after getting the all clear from his doctors following his battle with thyroid cancer, John Yaglenski decided to use the power of the Internet community he built to raise awareness and money to support thyroid awareness and research. John runs INTERCOT.com, one of the largest Disney vacation planning websites on the Internet.

INTERCOT’s community banded together with #runICOT, an annual gathering at Walt Disney World’s Marathon Weekend. With dozens of runners and supporters in Orlando for the events, and thousands participating at home through social media and daily podcasts, #runICOT became a unique opportunity for a community to show how kindness and encouragement can change lives.

INTERCOT’s runners and their cheering sections from across the United States and Canada met in Walt Disney World to run (and cheer) four races in four days while raising money. Through donations, the sale of awareness bands, and a series of #runICOT running shirts, INTERCOT raised more than $1000 in 2015. However, John believes that together in 2016 we can do even more!

INTERCOT is proud to partner with the ThyCa: Thyroid Cancer Survivors' Association, Inc. for #runICOT 2016 to support thyroid cancer awareness and research.

From Wednesday January 6th through Sunday January 10th 2016, the INTERCOT community will gather at the annual Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend—four races over four consecutive days (5k, 10k, Half Marathon & Full Marathon), right through the heart of many Walt Disney World icons. In addition, INTERCOT holds social events (called “meets”) each day where fans of the site and supporters gather, socialize and relax.

You don't have to be a runner to join in all the fun that comes along with the #runICOT meet! Those who don’t run are part of the #cheerICOT crew, who cheer on their fellow participants during the race! Sometimes cheering is more fun than running! The look of encouragement on the faces of runners as they hear their names called is just as exhilarating as hearing the starting gun at the start line.

Leading up to the event, INTERCOT will be selling #runICOT gear, to help identify your INTERCOT runners and cheer crew, in addition to thyroid cancer awareness bands and other items. All proceeds are donated to ThyCa, who reminds you to “Get a Neck Check.”

For those who want to run in the Disney races, registration begins Tuesday, April 28th at noon Eastern. Races sell out very quickly! If you plan on running, be online at 12 noon sharp! Disney’s registration site for Marathon Weekend can be found at https://www.rundisney.com/disneyworld-marathon.

Details and schedules for INTERCOT’s #runICOT and #cheerICOT festivities can be found here: http://intercot.com/news/runicot. Awareness bands can be purchased here: http://www.intercot.com/shop/donate/band.asp

If you have any questions about #runICOT, marathon weekend, or even tips about training for your first Run Disney event, feel free to ask in the #runICOT discussion forums at http://intercot.com/discussion/forumdisplay.php?f=70. While you’re there, stick around and explore the other forums. INTERCOT is much more than an information site. It’s a community that believes in the motto: “Be Good. Do Good.”

We hope to see you in January!

I tried looking into this last year, but to no avail. Is there the ability to get pledge sheets from ThyCa for the Marathon Weekend, as i would like to canvas to raise additional donations.

P.S. THanks for being strong John, and bringing this together.

Hmm - not sure on that. I can check with the Executive Director of ThyCa.

At a minimum I'm sure you could coordinate with me and we could work something out. Most fundraising is now done on the internet so we did it by selling bands and allowing folks to donate over and above the $10 minimum.

I'm also thinking of how on some races, you can request "sponsors" so my friends and family can donate to our #runICOT team like we did for you and Christine for the over-night Cancer walk. I've done it before for Wounded Warrior Project when I did Tough Mudder. "Hey, I'm doing this crazy thing for charity, would you like to donate?" I know I can always point someone to the bands or shirts (Tutu not included)https://instagram.com/p/yiT43vGEYA/?taken-by=jmtmstone

That's my exact point. I have many coworkers that will pledge for me to run, which goes towards ThyCa.
