I was wondering if anybody has been to rope drop recently at MK? Is it still a big rush to see Elsa and Anna and 7DMT? I have fast passes for both so I was planning to go straight to Big Thunder. Should I walk with the crowd (with my husband and 3 kids) or hop on the railroad? Thanks for your advice!

Thanks for your advice! It'd be quicker to walk to Thunder, in my opinion, if you follow the crowd into the park. The first train with guests does not leave Main Street station until about 9:10am (after the show train has cleared the station). I know when I worked at Frontierland station in the mornings, both Splash and Thunder would already be at a 20-minute posted wait time before the first train got to Frontierland station.

Yes to still a big rush. Not as bad as last year or during the heavy crowds but still busy.

As far as Thunder, I might be wrong, but I didn't think Splash and Thunder opened until 1 hour after park opening. I worked an opening a couple of weeks ago but was not back in that area so not 100% sure. I know when I work Sorcerer we don't open right away in the back location.

We did rope drop in March. We walked straight to 7DMT as we could not get FP. While the line was not too long when we got there, they had some technical difficulties. We decided to wait and it was only about 20 minutes before it opened. By then the line was almost around to Dumbo.

I would not take the train, I would walk. When you know where you are going, you can walk a bit faster than strollers and get there quicker.

Saw this same thing posted in another thread...when did this all start...?!

Splash and Thunder *always* opened WITH the rest of the park....has attendance fallen off or something...?

As I posted in the other thread, SM and BTMRR always opened later when we would travel in November, don't know if it was a seasonal thing though.

They said the only time(s) that the two attractions open later is on EMH mornings - in which only Tomorrowland and Fantasyland are open, anyways. Then the rest of the park opens at 9:00am.

So I'm not sure where this info is coming from...

It might be coming from that most of us posting that info (I know I did) never go to the MK unless it's morning EMH, in which case those parts of the park are definitely not open. So we didn't know better! I can't think of a single time I've been to the MK at opening and Adventureland/Frontierland/Liberty Square was open at the same time as Tomorrowland/Fantasyland/Main Street/Toon Town (RIP).

In any case, when we went in January, we decided to ride 7DMT first thing, and so we followed the CMs all the way to the line. We were some of the first ones on. We had FPs for later in the day, but we wanted to ride it twice!

Your best bet is heading straight to 7DMT or over to Tomorrowland and getting on some rides over there. Big Thunder will not be open in the morning, it also does not get as busy so just head over there when you are done at Tomorrowland.

i was there for opening last week (week of 4/20). i went straight for the mine train, as did most everyone else. i turned right before the castle, heading towards the tea cups. as i approached the mine train, 95% of the people must have gone straight through the castle to get there. we met up about the same time. i say i was in the first 50 to get there. when i got off, the line was crazy long. so yes, many many people are still heading there at park opening. i didn't see the elsa/anna line.

That's the same way we went as well. Seemed to be faster, actually. We were among the first 50 to get on, too. That's the way we'll do it in the future.
