Extended Extra Magic Hours

How often does this happen? I know on our trip 2 years ago, there was a night when the scheduled extra magic hours for Magic Kingdom early in the week were set to end at midnight, but when we checked the hours that morning in our hotel lobby, they were extended to 3 AM.

Last year's trip, the extra magic hours were the standard schedule that is already posted on disney.com. Is it a rare fluke when extra magic hours get extended, or is there some rhyme and reason to it?

I thought that EMH were shortened to two hours?

It happens fairly often.

Id say at least once per trip I show up to a park and it's hours have been extended an hour or two.

That's correct. It's park closing + 2 hours or 1 hour prior to opening.

We had that happen 1st week of December last year at MK. The announcement was made at park, that day. Park was more crowded than they expected.

Correct. It is common with Disney to extend park hours. EMH are still 2 hrs after closing, but if the parks open later it shifts EMH later. Its already happened for our upcoming Sept trip
