This is a story I related here on INTERCOT once many years ago and I now feel compelled to tell it again.
I have a dear friend, Ted, who met Walt Disney. I have over the years forced Ted to retell the story many times, usually on the quise that I wanted others to hear it, but really I just wanted to hear it again. Ted was 18 years old around 1964 and worked as a janitor at Disneyland. You know, one of the guys that used to walk around sweeping up cigarette butts that you rarely see anymore. One day he was startled to find Walt walk right up to him and say "Hello." Ted answered "Hello Mr. Disney, nice to meet you." Of course he replied, "No, no... call me Walt." He said they chatted for a minute or so, mostly Walt asking about how he liked his job and if he was happy working at Disneyland. I mean, in the scheme of things, it was small, but for this Disney fan, I always felt like Ted was my link to Walt.
My friend passed away last week, and he will be missed.
