Back from WDW for about a week now and was wondering if anyone has seen the mermaids on POTC??? We rode it twice and no sign of them.

Where are they supposed to be?? Where the skeleton of the mermaids are? Are they on both sides of the boat? Maybe they weren't working when I was there. :mickey:

They are just before the skeleton beach scene. We saw them last night on either side of the boat in the swirls of water. If they're working they are pretty noticeable.

Are they audioanimatronics or just shadows projected onto the water? :mickey:

I saw what I thought to be a mermaid in the water. During the first scene to the left of the boat, there was what appeared to be a mermaid under the service of the water. It is some kind of light. I don't remember any signing.

When were the mermaids added?

The mermaids have been there for about a year now. I went last year right after Thanksgiving and saw them. If you don't look quick you will miss them.

The swirls of light are the mermaids. So, you saw them.

You don't see faces. When I saw the "lights", mermaids was the first thought that popped into my head. It doesn't look like Ariel....

It was never meant to be Ariel. If you've seen the 4th Pirates movie, you know. The 'swirl of lights' is a good description. It's subtle, and well done, IMO.

Weak... You aren't missing anything.

Just another sad crossover item.

I meant that there were no faces, not literally Ariel.

It's after the mist screen and before you get to the skeletons on the beach. Blink and you miss it, happens on the right side in the water first, and then the left. You hear mermaids singing, then you can see a silhouette of a mermaid swimming in the light, if I'm remembering correctly, and she doesn't look up. You see her as if she is swimming beside you under the water, face down not up.

I saw them swirling about last year but when we were there in Sept the effect was not working. There also is a finned skeleton that was added to the beach scene. I thought they were nice, subtle touches added.

We're here now. And we're at MK on Sunday. No Blackbeard, but the mermaids were singing and you could see light near swirling bubbles before the initial skeleton scene.
