He was back a couple of weeks ago and looked fine. Must have been down for a short refurb when you were there.

This sort of thing goes on all the time. Most just don't notice. Maintenance at Disney will take down a piece here and there refurb it and put it back. So long as it isn't necessary for the ride. That way they only have to shut the whole ride down every year or so. I usually notice when one of the regulars is missing on Pirates but that is only because I have been riding since I was a kid. At DL not WDW but still same thing. :mickey:

Most Animatronic figures are designed so they can be removed to be repaired or replaced. The Buzz Lightyear at Disneyland Paris also has a curtain that can be pulled round to hide his plynth from view.

Yes, he was back as of last Sunday when we took a day trip over to MK.

Actually spelled PLINTH, per Wikipedia:

In architecture, a plinth is the base or platform upon which a column, pedestal, statue, monument or structure rests.

Had to look that one up myself! :D

A plinth, as PopPhan wiki'd, is a pedestal of sorts. I've never forgot that term as it happens to be the "official name" of the raised base thing that Harrison Ford pulls the ancient temple idol off of and replaces it with a bag of sand in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Maybe he was filling it for Madame Leota in the crystal ball scene at HM for the day?

I'll never forget the time we were riding on the monorail to epcot and looking down along the main road I saw Buzz on his back in a flatbed. So funny!

Sorry guys! Iphone likes to do silly things with spellings! Grrrrr. Yeh, what I was trying to say, the box, plinth, tower that he stands on has a curtain that can be pulled round it to hide him from view.
