My DH and I were joking about what we would do if we won the lottery, and we both chimed in that I would def be on my way to the Magic immediately, of course. However my new Grandprince is due anytime, so that would be a consideration. DH said I could just fly everybody including her doctor all down there to a luxury resort so he could be born at Disneyworld! ;) We had a good laugh, but I wondered if anyone has ever TRIED to have a baby at Disneyworld (sounds crazy, but....), or if anybody has any good stories about babies that just happened to be born there, even if it wasn't the plan! ;)

First congratulations on the grand baby! We are new grand parents also. Ours turns 2 next Saturday so maybe not so new but still seems that way. His first trip to the magic will be in august. I will be watching and waiting to see if there are any stories of deliveries on property. God only knows how many little mouseketeers were, well, you know, "made" there :secret:

God bless

I would be surprised if someone hasn't tried that, and it has possibly happened. There have been plenty of babies conceived there, I'm sure. My son was a Disney Honeymoon souvenir and lots of adults go to WDW without kids. But then, a lot of people don't want to be away from home and their medical or midwife network at the time of birth. Insurance coverage might factor in to that, too. Plus the fact that giving birth mid theme park is probably no one's idea of fun. Chances are they could transport anyone to proper facilities in time. Babies born at Celebration's medical facilities, maybe close enough?

Who knows? :mickey: Just thought it might have happened. Would be cool to be able to grow up and say one was born at Disneyworld! :)

Thanks, and congratulations back to you!
This is number two for us, and I was soooo happy to experience her first trip at 23 months back in December. I guess technically I got to go on our little man's 'first trip', too... :cloud9:

I just read an article from back in 1997 from the Orlando Sentinel that an abandoned new born baby was found in a bathroom in Tomorrowland. According to the article the baby was litterally minutes old.

There are reports of Births at Disneyland too. An article I found reads:

"The first baby born at Disneyland was Teresa Salcedo on July 4, 1979. Salcedo was presented with "Disneyland Birth Certificate No. 1" by Mickey Mouse."

I recall seeing somewheres a few years back, that two babies were *officially* born at WDW in the parks. I know I remember reading about the one found in the restroom; and I distinctly remember reading about another one at the Baby Care center (woman went into labor while waiting in line for a ride, CM's got her a wheelchair and escorted her to BC, Reedy Creek paramedics were called, baby delivered - can you imagine the story that child could tell their grandchildren? LOL...)

I remember where I read it now...there's a couple of books about "CM stories" and behind-the-scenes stuff: Mouse Tales, More Mouse Tales, and Realityland.

If the baby was born at WDW the name for each would be.

Boy: Mickey

Girl: Minnie

It would make sense to me...

Baby Born At Disney Doing Fine
Nurses At The Hospital Have Named The Asian Girl ''princess Jasmine.''

November 10, 1997|By Kenneth A. Harris and Cory Lancaster of The Sentinel Staff

Hospital officials Sunday fielded calls from people who want to adopt an infant born and abandoned at Disney's Tomorrowland.

As Orange County sheriff's investigators searched for the mother Sunday, the newborn was in good condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children & Women, where the nursing staff affectionately calls her ''Princess Jasmine'' from the Disney movie Aladdin.

''She's just beautiful,'' said Martha Johnson, spokeswoman for Arnold Palmer, of the 7-pound child of Asian descent. ''She has a full head of hair, a full head of dark hair.''

The apparently minutes-old girl was found shortly after 9 p.m. Saturday in a toilet at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom.

Investigators are working with local hospitals and hotels to find the mother, who may seek medical attention.

''It's going to be difficult,'' said sheriff's Detective Matt Irwin. ''Hopefully something will turn up.''

''Somebody must have seen something or heard something in the bathroom,'' Deputy Miguel Pagan said.

On Saturday, Dr. Kenneth Goodman had just gotten off his third ride on Space Mountain and was walking near the restroom when he heard a scream.

''I saw a woman holding a blue baby,'' he said Sunday. ''Just seconds before, she had pulled the newborn infant from the toilet.''

At the site, the vacationing family-practice physician from Cleveland, switched to ''doctor-mode.''

He estimated the girl had been born maybe three to five minutes earlier. The placenta and the umbilical cord were still attached.

''I grabbed the baby and put it in a head-down position. . . . I listened to see if the baby was breathing, which she was, just barely. She had a very faint pulse.''

Using a pen, he cleared the mucous in her throat, which was preventing her from breathing. And he used a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord.

Not until hours later, when he was giving a statement to police, did the impact of the event hit him.

''It was frightening,'' he said. ''The thought of it, I just broke down in tears in my wife's arms.''

When rescue workers arrived at the theme park, they bundled the baby in a blue blanket and put her in an ambulance. The newborn had a low body temperature, estimated at 91 degrees, when she arrived at the hospital. Medical staff kept the child under a warmer until her temperature stabilized.

On Sunday, the newborn was being fed formula in a nursery with about 20 other infants.

On Sunday, Goodman said it is surprising that no one saw the mother leaving the bathroom, especially because she probably was bleeding and needed medical attention.

''I had five other family members with me,'' Goodman said. ''No one saw this woman.''

Investigators also were surprised the woman left the theme park unnoticed.

Irwin said the mother may be a young woman who abandoned the girl because of conflicts with her religious or family beliefs.

''I don't know at this point,'' Irwin said. ''There's probably some incredible stress in this woman's life. I don't want to rush to judgment at this point.''

Legally, the woman could face charges ranging from child endangerment to attempted homicide, but prosecutors will make that determination.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is expected to seek an emergency hearing to obtain custody of the girl. She is expected to be released from Arnold Palmer within days.

Once in state custody, the girl will likely be placed with foster parents.

''If a guest hadn't walked into the bathroom and found the baby, we wouldn't have the scenario we have right now,'' Johnson said. ''Everything seemed to fall into place.''

The woman discovered the baby in the bathroom when she saw blood on the floor and heard a whimpering sound. She opened the adjacent stall and discovered the newborn in 68-degree toilet water.

She yelled for help. A second woman was asking for a blanket to cover the child when a third pulled off her sweatshirt to warm the newborn.

Goodman rushed in after hearing cries for a doctor.

The Goodmans were on the last day of a 12-day vacation in Orlando with 18 family members. After talking to police, they got back to their hotel room at 12:30 a.m. and left nine hours later on a plane for Cleveland.

''Who knows what would have happened without me,'' Goodman said. ''It was fate, absolute fate.''

From the Orlando Sentinel, November 10, 1997:

I remember this incident. I wonder what happened to the child? I hope she did not suffer any harm and that she is living a happy life in a loving family.

Wow. I can't even imagine. I wonder what ever became of 'Princess Jasmine'? I can only imagine her mom was maybe a scared teenager on vacation or something :(

On a happier note, I always joked with my best friend that one of my son's should be born at Disney since I love it so much. With my second baby, I went when I was 8.5 months [kind of hoping go into full fledged labor!]. I had been having Braxton Hicks all week long! :)

A long time ago when I worked at Opryland USA we had one incident when a baby was delivered just outside the main gate to the park. Turns out that the parents were hoping that the child would be born inside the park and that they could file a lawsuit claiming that one of the attractions had induced an early labor. Surprised that something like that hasn't happened at Disney,
