I heard a rumor that you can trade in single day tickets towards a hopper or AP and pay the difference. Is this true? If so, if you are trading in 3 single day tickets how much value do they have?

They will basically look them up in a computer by ticket number. The computer will tell them the "face value" of the ticket, and you will be given that amount towards the purchase of other ticket media.

So, if you were to present a one day ticket from 15 years ago, you would not get TODAY's value of a one day ticket.

That's partially correct.
Yes, if you were to bring in a very old ticket, that's what would happen.

But, if the ticket is a new Magic Your Way ticket, you can get FULL gate value for those tickets.

The procedure to follow for upgrading a one-day ticket is:

First USE the ticket to go into a Theme Park (yes, USE the ticket.) Then, that same day, take that ticket to any ticket booth or Guest Relations and tell them how you'd like to upgrade the ticket.
You will be given FULL GATE VALUE for that ticket (yes, after you have used it to go into a park) towards any higher-level Magic Your Way ticket (more days, and/or Water Parks Fun & More, and/or a Hopper, and/or Non-expiring) or even upgrade to an AP.

To upgrade a multi-day ticket, it's the same procedure, but you don't have to do the upgrade until the same day as the last asset on the original ticket is used.
(You CAN do the upgrade as soon as the first day that you use a multi-day ticket, but you don't HAVE to.)

All upgrades must be done within the first 14 days following a ticket's first use.
