If you could spare some pixies and prayers. My father has pneumonia. I took him to the doctor on Thursday and he was given antibiotics and inhalers. He has not improved since.

I took him to the ER today and he is being admitted. I could only do so much for him and now it is time for the big guns. At his ripe old age of 92, I am trying to get him to 93:thumbsup:

The ER doctor said the same thing as his primary M.D., that is a small spot of pneumonia. His heart and kidney labs were not the best.

I am really surprised that his primary doc didn't put him in the hospital on Thursday. Kind of miffed at that.

TIA for the prayers and pixies:mickey:

Prayers and :pixie: headed your way. My grandfather made it through quite a few bouts of pneumonia before his ultimate passing. He just wasn't ready to go yet those previous times. It always feels like forever when you are waiting for them to recover! I hope he pulls through.

Hope your father is doing well, Marci. I am surprised they didn't admit to a hospital right away too. Pneumonia nothing to sniff at at age 92! :pixie:

Thank you for all the prayers and pixies. He is doing a bit better and looks much better and stronger.

His kidney function is down. A lot happens to the body system when you are sick.

I think he is feeling a little down. He said because is kidney function is down that "it might not be long" I told him that if he were critical, he would be in the ICU. His nurse told him the same thing and he felt better about it.

His appetite is returning, and he is eating well. Even with hospital food.

I am thinking that he may be home by the end of the week. I hope so. I need my Disneyland de-stressing:mickey:

Glad to hear he is improving, Marci!

If the doctors aren't suggesting dialysis, then the kidney function is better than he thinks. Even if they suggest dialysis, he may just need a few sessions to "wake the kidney up" so it functions normally again.

A nice surprise with today's visit. The nurse told me he is going home on Wednesday. He is much improved, but still tired.

I called his primary doctor. The nurse there said that the doctor does not like to admit to the hospital because of all the infectious germs in the hospital..... UGH.. sometimes it is better off to hospitalize than to try and treat at home. Especially with the elderly (and very young).

Now to get ready for his return and back to being a caretaker.

Thanks to all for the pixies, prayers and thoughts. I really does help.
