Feb. 12, 2001 – Disney’s syndicated TV Talk Show “Live with Regis and Kelly” began airing on ABC-TV.
Feb. 12, 2002 - Disney’s 1953 “Peter Pan; Special Edition” was released on DVD.
Feb. 12, 2003 – The Tokyo Disneyland CD “Cinderellabration: Lights of Romance” was released.
Feb. 12, 2004 – The “SaveDisney” website announced a rally in Philadelphia that would take place March 2…one day prior to Disney’s Annual Shareholder Meeting.
Feb. 12, 2007 – Disney announced that they are producing “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” as a live-action feature starring Nicholas Cage as the Sorcerer. The film will be based on Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s original poem, not the Mickey Mouse sequence in Fantasia.
Feb. 12, 2007 – Academy Award-winning Visual Effects pioneer/matte artist and Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw passed away at his home in Santa Barbara, Ca. at the age of 93. A handpicked member of Walt Disney’s creative team since 1947, Ellenshaw was called upon to create a wide variety of visual effects for such films as “Mary Poppins,” “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea,” “Darby O’Gill and the Little People,” “Treasure Island,” and “The Black Hole.” He even painted the iconic first map of Disneyland that was featured on all the early postcards.
Feb. 12, 2009 – As part of the massive grand opening of the new “American Idol Experience” attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, American Idol winners David Cook and Carrie Underwood sang a duet for the media inside the new attraction’s theater. (Also in attendance were Idol celebrities including all 7 winners, Paula Abdul, and Ryan Seacrest. The new attraction would officially open Feb. 14, 2009).
Feb. 12, 2010 - The Disney/Pixar Digital 3-D theatrical release of “Toy Story” took place on this day.
Feb. 12, 2010 – A Disney Cruise Line exhibit opened in the Visitors Centre of Meyer Werft (one of the largest German shipyards, headquartered in Papenburg), Meyer Werft is currently building the “Disney Dream,” which is set to sail in 2011.
Feb. 12, 2010 – The Holiday Inn at the WDW Resort reopened after a massive 18-month renovation.
Feb. 12, 2011 – “Mickey’s Toontown Fair” closed to make room for the expansion of Fantasyland and Storybook Circus area in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Feb. 12, 2012 – At the 54th Annual Grammy Awards Alan Menken and Glen Slater won Best Song Written For Visual Media for “I See the Light” from “Tangled.”
