Feb. 8, 2006 – Gordon Goodwin won a Grammy for Best Instrumental Arrangement for “The Incredits” a track from “The Incredibles Soundtrack.” Goodwin, a composer/arranger & consummate jazz musician, was a three-time Emmy Award winner and the leader of Big Phat Band (a Los Angeles based jazz group.)
Feb. 8, 2007 – The “Il Mulino New York Trattoria” Restaurant opened at the Walt Disney World Swan Resort in Fl.
Feb. 8, 2008 – The 35th Annual Annie Awards took place at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Ca. Pixar’s “Ratatouille” (which was nominated in 13 categories) took home 9 awards including Best Animated Feature, Best Directing in an Animated Feature Production (Brad Bird), and Best Writing in an Animated Feature Production (also Brad Bird). Best Music in an Animated Feature Production was given to Michael Giacchino for his contribution to “Ratatouille.”
Feb. 8, 2009 – The 51st Annual Grammy Awards took place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, Ca. Best Musical Album for Children went to Here Comes The 123’s by They Might Be Giants.
Feb. 8, 2009 – Disney Channel’s newest live-action series “Sonny With a Chance” (starring Demi Lovato) debuted.
Feb. 8, 2009 – At the 62nd British Academy Film Awards, “Wall-E” won for Best Animated Film.
Feb. 8, 2010 – Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees, quarterback for the New Orleans Saints starred in the “I’m Going to Disney World!” and “I’m Going to Disneyland!” commercials. The New Orleans Saints bet the Indianapolis Colts 31-17.
Feb. 8, 2011 – The soundtrack for the movie “Gnomeo and Juliet” was released by Walt Disney (3 days before the film’s national release.
Feb. 8, 2012 – On the 11th anniversary of Disney California Adventure park, Disney announced that the expansion of the park would be completed this summer with the addition of two new areas, “Buena Vista Street” and “Cars Land.”
Feb. 8, 2012 – Laurie Main, the Australian born actor best known as the kindly host and narrator of the 1980’s live-action Disney Channel series “Welcome to Pooh Corner,” passed away in Los Angeles, Ca. at the age of 89.He was known for his voice work in “The Great Mouse Detective,” “Winnie the Pooh Discovers the Seasons,” “Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore,” and also appeared in “The Strongest Man in the World,” “Freaky Friday,” and “Herbie Goes to Monte Carlo.”
