Feb. 6, 2005 – The in famous “I’m Going to Disney World!” TV advertising campaign does not take place at Super Bowl XXXIX for the first time since it started at Super Bowl XX in 1987. Instead Disney ran an ad several times during the game showing several players from both teams practicing the catch-phrase. (The New England Patriots defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 24-21.)
Feb. 6, 2006 – Super Bowl MVP Hines Ward and Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Jerome “The Bus” Bettis appeared in a victory parade at WDW’s Magic Kingdom along with football legend Emmitt Smith.
Feb. 6, 2006 – George Millay, a theme-park visionary who founded SeaWorld and Wet’n Wild and pioneered Orlando Florida’s tourism business, passed away at age 76 in San Diego, Ca. Often referred to as “the father of water parks,” Millay opened the original SeaWorld (in California) in 1964. He was a great admirer of Walt Disney and the company he built.
Feb. 6, 2007 – The new Disney.com opened to the public.
Feb. 6, 2007 – Disney’s “Cinderella III: A Twist in Time” was released on DVD.
Feb. 6, 2009 – The exhibit “Disney: The Music Behind the Magic” made its California debut at the Western Center Museum in Hemet. (Ran through May, 10, 2009)
Feb. 6, 2009 – Disneyland Resorts “It’s a Small World” re-opened with a brand new “Spirit of America” scene and 29 newly added Disney/Pixar characters strategically placed throughout the attraction.
Feb. 6, 2010 – The 37th Annual Annie Awards hosted by William Shatner, were held at UCLA’s Royce Hall in Los Angeles, Ca. Pixar Animation Studios “Up” won the Best Animation Feature. Walt Disney Animation Studios won 6 Annies overall including 3 for its Feature “The Princess and the Frog” and 3 for its TV production “Prep and Landing.”
Feb. 6, 2011 – At Super Bowl XLV, quarterback Aaron Rodgers shouted “I’m going to Disney World!” after the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-25.
Feb. 6, 2012 – The Disneyland Resort announced a $5 million gift to Children’s Hospital of Orange County for an expansion that would include a Disney themed lobby.
