Jan. 24, 2003 – More than 100 Oscar statuettes presented over the past 75 years were featured in a new exhibition at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences beginning this day.
Jan. 24, 2003 – The Lizzie McGuire episode “Dear Lizzie” aired on the Disney Channel.
Jan. 24, 2003 – The Disney Channel’s That’s So Raven episode “A Fish Called Raven” aired. (The episode was directed by Fred Savage, star of the 1980’s TV series The Wonder Years.)
Jan. 24, 2006 – Robert A. Iger, President & CEO of the Walt Disney Co., announced that Disney had agreed to acquire computer animation leader Pixar in an all-stock transaction (totaled to be worth approx. $7.4 billion), expected to be completed by summer.
Jan. 24, 2007 – It was reported that WDW’s “Strive for Five” energy reduction program has won the 2nd annula Florida Energy Achievement Award. The award was presented by the University of Central Florida’s Florida Solar Energy Center to a company, organization or individual that has made a significant achievement in the efficient use of energy, energy conservation, energy education or renewable energy in Florida.
Jan. 24, 2007 – The official grand openings of “Finding Nemo – The Musical” at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and “The Seas with Nemo and Friends” at Epcot took place.
Jan. 24, 2007 – Overnight stays began being awarded randomly in “Cinderella Castle” as part of the “Disney Dreams Giveaway” during “The Year of a Million Dreams” celebration at WDW.
Jan. 24, 2007 – Disney began awarding eligible guest for overnight stays in Cinderella Castle as part of the “Disney’s Dreams Giveaway” Celebration.
Jan. 24, 2010 – John Lasseter received the David O. Selznick Achievement Award in Motion Pictures at the 2010 Producers Guild Awards.
Jan. 24, 2012 – The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced nominations for the 84th Annual Academy Awards. Disney’s films and those it distributed earned 13 Oscar nominations. Among them were: Best Picture: The Help & War Horse (Both distributed by Touchstone Pictures) – Music (Original Song): “Man or Muppet” from the Muppets (music and lyrics by Bret McKensie) – Short Film Animated: Pixar’s La Luna (written & directed by Enrico Casarosa) – Visual Effects, Touchstone Pictures’ Real Steel (Erik Nash, John Rosengrant, Dan Taylor, and Swen Gilberg), the Oscars would be awarded Feb. 26th at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles, Ca.
