Jan. 13, 1990 – The “Swan” Hotel opened to guests at WDW.
Jan. 13, 1993 – Disney Legend Ken Anderson passed away in La Canada-Flintridge, Ca. Often referred to as Walt Disney’s “Jack of All Trades,” Anderson worked as an architect, artist, animator, storyteller, and designer.
Jan. 13, 1998 – Disney’s direct-to-video “Belles Magical World” was released.
Jan. 13, 2001 – Disney’s “House of Mouse” debuted on ABC-TV with the episode “The Stolen Cartoons.” The high-energy “House of Mouse” opening title theme is written, produced, and performed by rocker Brian Setzer.
Jan. 13, 2006 – Walt Disney Pictures released the film “Glory Road.”
Jan. 13, 2007 – The Disney Channel’s new half-hour series “Johnny and the Sprites” debuted.
Jan. 13, 2008 – Entertainment news anchor Brooke Anderson announced the Best Animated Feature Film winner “Ratatouille” at the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards Announcements at the Beverly Hilton in Ca. (Due to the ongoing WGA strike, no formal ceremony took place.
Jan. 13, 2008 – Brazil’s Adriano Bastos ran to his 4th straight victory in the 15th Walt Disney World Marathon, easily winning in 2:20:56. John Garton of Voorhees, N.J., came in second in 2:35:02, and Lance Jones of Saranac, Michigan, finished third in 2:37:59. In the women’s race, Melanie Peters of St. Petersburg, Fl raced to victory in 2:47:29. Sonja Friend-Uhl of West Palm Beach, Fl., finished in 2:49:25.
Jan. 13, 2011 – Pixar’s Brad Lewis (co-director) and Jay Shuster (art director) previewed “Cars 2” at The Auto Week Design Forum in a dual keynote address that offered insights into the impressive depth and creativity behind the film.
Jan. 13, 2012 – The Disney Channel Original Movie “Frenemies” premiered on the Disney Channel.
